2 Bedroom Flat

The property is situated in a very convenient location, just a few steps away from Bedford Castle, the embankment of the River Ouse, and Bedford City Centre. The flat is very spacious, featuring two good-sized bedrooms, two bathrooms (one of which is ensuite), and a large kitchen and lounge area. The apartment is well decorated. Our host provided detailed instructions on how to get to the property. There is secure onsite parking.

I won't lie, I booked this place because of the parking. On reflection, however, it would have been more convenient and cheaper to park in one of the council's car parks (even though they charge obscene and unjustified rates). We had to pick up the keys from a separate location, about a 10-minute walk from the apartment. However, you can't park at the apartment because you need a fob to open the gates, and if you park outside, you have to pay. So, we had to drive to the said location, but there was no obvious place to stop if you are in the car. The location is at the junction of a busy road with double yellow lines all around. After a couple of rounds, we found a small passage to turn into. The host's friend was extremely pleasant and welcoming; we got the keys in a jiffy, and after a three-point turn in someone's backyard, we were back on the public road. The checkout process is equally cumbersome. You can't drop off the keys and drive off. This is because you need a fob to open the gates of the car park. (And you can't drive off and then drop off the keys, because once you put the keys in the letterbox inside the porch you can't get out to the car park, because you need a second fob to operate the internal door... it's always a two-fob action to get in). So what you do, you get out of the gates, drive around the building, stop on a one-lane road, put on emergency lights (it's all yellow lined), open the front door of the property using the second fob, put the key in the letterbox, and only then are you off the hook. The apartment itself is nice and spacious, but perhaps not as clean as I expected from the reviews (the towel rails in the bathrooms may need some TLC, and a couple of hooks on the bathroom doors would be nice). Also, there were no toiletries. We had our own, so we didn't mind, but if you travel light, you need to factor that in.

It was nicely decorated and a good location in the town centre.

I genuinely never like to say anything negative so I'm sorry, but I must be honest.... There was a random steak left in the freezer, a used loofah and opened shower gel with the lid off lying next to it on the side in the bathroom as if it hadnt been fully cleared since the last visitors? The suspicious curly hairs in the bath and also on the towel rail (?!) weren't a nice sight either. Although there was one secure parking space provided, we were told that there was street parking outside or at a nearby pub, but the signs at the pub all said private parking, and all of the street parking had restrictions so we couldn't leave our car. We had to go out to move the car at 8 o'clock in the morning (when restrictions ended) and find a paid car park. No response when I queried this. After we had initially arrived and accessed the accommodation, we left the building to go to a shop, and when we returned, the fob wasn't working to open the outside gates so we couldn't access the building, I tried to call the owner but got no answer.... I'll admit it was 10.30pm, but we were stuck outside, and were only able to get access when another resident eventually happened to leave and let us in.

Parking bays way too small for my car

The owner, Tony was very friendly, good at communicating and very accommodating for us; we wanted a little bit of an extension on the room and parking and because he could help, he did without hesitation 🙂 Rooms spacious. Bed comfy (we had the king-size bed). Location was great close to all amenities, very central amd also a stones throw from river.. car parking space.

No loo roll in either bathrooms, perhaps an oversight? No curtains in bedroom only blinds so if you need a dark room to sleep this might be an issue.
