Casa dos Arrifes - Villa with Ocean view and private Garden

We had an amazing stay for 3 weeks at Casa dos Arrifes! The house is exceptionally spacious, with large bedrooms and generous common areas offering plenty of room both inside and out. It is immediately clear that the owners have furnished this house as a true home rather than a generic tourist rental. The kitchen is extraordinarily well-equipped, filled with high-quality gear and more than enough supplies for everyone. The beds were also exceptionally comfortable, ensuring great sleep every night. Every comfort you could possibly need is provided. Torsten, the owner, was incredibly service-minded, welcoming, and easy to communicate with throughout our stay. The location in Funchal is comfortably tucked away from the main hustle, making the neighborhood peaceful while remaining close to the city center. The tradeoff is a solid uphill trek to get to the house, which gives you great free daily exercise, though it might not suit everyone. A standout feature is the marvelous garden, filled with beautiful trees and flowers—a rare luxury so close to the city. The house is located at the end of a dead-end road accessed through a very narrow passage. While the sign says 1.75 meters, our rental car (a Citroën C3) passed through just fine! Driving in Funchal can be a bit tricky at first, but you quickly adapt to it, and the locals in the neighborhood were incredibly friendly and helpful whenever two cars needed to pass each other in narrow spots. The location is up a very steep location, impossible for some vehicles to access. Although not essential, some English speaking DVDs would have been a nice addition .
