De Khama

We loved our stay at De Khama! Our hosts were excellent and the property is beautiful. The buffet meals were definitely a highlight - so fresh, with lots of produce from the garden outside our window.

De Khama was a beautiful experience for us both in terms of the physical location/accommodation and the human/social experience. The accommodation is situated in a beautiful and quiet village. We were looking for a place away from crowds and more special. De Khama fit that perfectly. Even though we were away from Hundar, we were easily able to walk down to local sand dunes on our side of the river and enjoy the local monasteries without many other people around. Compared to the more standard sights, I feel that we experienced something more unique and special in Nubra Valley by staying at De Khama. Much of that was due to our wonderful hosts. One of our hosts dedicated two days to taking us around to the unique and stunning sights that the valley had to offer. This even included a group-prepared picnic under the mountains. But, most importantly, our hosts are amazing people who have dedicated themselves to supporting local education in the Nubra Valley. We learned so much from them about Ladakh, regional/national politics, and the power of a vision for education. Thank you!

We should have stayed more than 3 nights!

It’s run by a family and they are exceptionally good.. they welcomed us with warmth and care. The ambience of the whole property felt surreal, surrounded by greenery amongst the mountains. They have a beautiful garden and have a small farm adjacent to the property where they cultivate vegetables. The food they offer is top notch , one of the best we have had in our whole ladakh trip, and they use the veggies from their own farm. The rooms and washrooms are clean and impeccable. There’s a patio where we can sit, relax and read (they have a good library of books).

Located in a quite and peaceful village. The owner is very friendly. Dinner and breakfast is delicious. More important, hot water is adequate and hot.
