Allt Slapin

Location is quite remote and outstandingly beautiful. Milk was left in the fridge which we had forgotten to bring and was appreciated as we arrived later in the day. All the essentials were there such as salt, pepper and tea.

The teflon pans which appear in lots of holiday lets unfortunately. Although everything was nice and clean, the cottage could do with a bit of tlc, especially the poor and very well loved sofa, even a cover for it.

This is a lovely cottage. It is very spacious, far away from any other house and the road for it to be very quiet, but less than 15 minutes away by car from the nearest big-ish town with a decent supermarket and restaurants. The cottage was the best equipped one that I've enountered in my long exprience of staying in such cottages all over the UK. There is a dishwasher, a washing machine and even a dryer. Special commendation goes to a great collection of sharp knives! The view from the windows was wonderful. Beds were comfortable and the collection of furniture had character. Loads of books and games.

The place does need re-decorating. But this is now reflected in the price which was much more democratic than siilar properties in the area.

The location of the cottage is fantastic: away from the busier places on Skye, but with supermarkets and restaurants still at a reasonable distance. The view on the surrounding mountains, loch and river are stunning. The kitchen was very homey and well stocked with kitchen utensils. The beds were comfortable. The shower was warm and good and the electric heaters worked like a charm after a long day outdoors. We felt at home there quite quickly.

The furniture in the living room could do with refurbishment or replacement (particularly the couch and day bed are no longer comfortable, you can feel their wooden structure beneath you when you sit in them. During storm Floris (admittedly: not your “normal” weather), the water came in through all the windows and doors, these need maintenance to make the water tight again. Regardless of the above, we had a terrific week at the cottage and would recommend it.

This was a self Catering option, so we took our own food and drinks with us. So no issues here. We chose this property solely for the location and the views which are of course fantastic anywhere in Scotland.

The location of the property was perfect, easy to get to, and the view from the Livingroom was worth the drive. The house itself can cater for up to 6 people, although we were only there as a couple celebrating an Anniversary. Maybe for 6 it would be better value for money, but for 2, it needs a bit of work done to it. Unfortunately, although the house had plenty of old World atmosphere with the furniture and books which we assume were supplied/left by the owner, and there were enough items like washing machine, dryer, dish washer, hoover etc, with the hoover being the only one we needed to use. The disappointing issue we had was with the cooking utensils, the cooker, the microwave, and pots and pans. These could have, and maybe should have been checked and left much cleaner than they were. As we wanted to travel a fair bit, we only managed to clean what we needed to use before & after use. So we haven't been able to contact the Owner - or the Letting Company - but perhaps either (or both) need to review some of the remedial work that needs carried out to the Building Fabric & contents. We also did ensure we left the place slightly better than we got it, which is always our aim wherever we stay.
