CASA DAS MOURAS is situated in the village of Rio de Moinhos, in the municipality of Penafiel, in the district of Porto.
Located in the geographic center of the Douro Litoral, the wax 40 kilometers from the city of Porto and about the same distance from the cities of Braga and Guimarães, is also a place conducive to the tour of the region of Port wine, called Douro Vinhateiro, World Heritage Site, which is not far away.
As an equally important reference is to point out the existence in its surroundings of the magnificent ROUTE OF ROMANIC, Route that has the privilege of owning the most beautiful examples of the Romanesque art of Europe.
The beginning of the construction of CASA DAS MOURAS dates back to the XVII century. The vestiges related to the time of this beginning are well evident in several architectural details of this beautiful and enormous HOUSE, of which the inner chapel stands out, with altar bordered in gilded carving.
Throughout its extensive life, CASA DAS MURAS was the "headquarters", in the municipality of Penafiel, Morgado de Nossa Senhora da Vela, one of the most important agricultural and livestock poles in the region, consisting of innumerable farms producing green wine, olive oil, maize and animal fodder.
With the passage of time and in the face of the decline of "traditional agriculture", CASA DAS MURAS was losing those characteristics, having recently become a pleasant unit of Local Accommodation.
From the terraces of the CASA you can contemplate a magnificent landscape, in the distance you can see the foothills of the Sierras do Marão and Montemuro and, more closely, the green that is reflected in the waters of the Tâmega River, now "trapped" by the Torrão Dam.
CASA DAS MOURAS has a rose garden and agapantos with a lawned space, constituting the surroundings of the swimming pool that, due to its location, stays in the sun all day.
CASA DAS MOURAS has 8 accommodation units, consisting of 7 suites and a bedroom.
Due to the size of some of the suites CASA can accommodate up to 17 people.
One of the suites has direct door to the street and has a kittchnet equipped, and also has a terrace. This suite, in addition to the comfortable double bed, also has two individual soummiers. It is the so-called family space.
CASA DE MOURAS operates throughout the year in two ways:
- sleeping and breakfast or just sleeping;
- stay with occupation of the entire HOUSE, for weekends, week (s) for families or groups of friends.
The prices for these two modalities are included in a price list published annually.
For the second modality described above, CASA DAS MOURAS offers a cleaning service mid week and another at the weekend, with change of bedding and bathroom.
All the suites of the CASA, as well as the dining room, have air conditioning, there are 3 fireplaces and a salamander that make their spaces comfortable and for which all the necessary firewood is provided.
Because the population of Rio de Moinhos is very cheerful and welcoming, there is no lack of opportunities for guests of CASA DAS MURAS to enjoy and even participate in both religious and recreational events that take place here very often throughout the year .

Tiago went out of his way to help - from adding an extra bed for kids to one of the parents' rooms, to finding us a babysitter for the "grown-ups" night out. The house itself is big and spacious. The air-con sometimes struggled with the heat, but the heat was unusual. It was close to the perfect place for our very large family of 21 people of all ages.
