Wai Makare Beach Retreat

Beautiful beach and great coral! Calm seas and little or no wind. Spectacular sunsets. Friendly and attentive staff - especially Jay - who seemed to be everywhere from 6:30am to 11pm! We started to feel like part of the family after only a few days. Staff are so kind & welcoming to kids. Peaceful place - no crowds. Comfortable and spacious family room and welcoming communal dining/games/beach area with good wifi, hammocks, kayaks, & seating. Great chats with friendly travellers. Great place to unwind!

Some in our party would have preferred a hot shower, but this was a minor drawback and didn't take away from our overall experience.

Relaxed ambience. Great snorkelling and beaches. Great staff - family business. Meals were delicious. The lovo on our last night was such a special experience and the local food was exceptional. Would love to return here when next visiting Fiji.

One toilet only for the standard rooms and dormitory. This is currently being addressed and a second toilet/ shower block currently being built. Would’ve liked more hammocks / comfortable seating around the beach area.

Emily and her family were so accommodating and warm, we did a lot of activities and ate really nice meals! Loved the bonfire and singing/guitar playing, snorkelling on the nearby reef was amazing!

Not very clean, extremely uncomfortable bed, food was hit or miss - generally not good value for 40 dollars per day. We were also hit with a hidden cost as soon as we arrived, 60 dollars to cover the booking.com commission. They also tried to overcharge when checking out, they tried to charge for transfer per person rather than per booking (as stated on booking confirmation), they also tried to increase the cost of the Manta Ray swimming versus what they told us prior to going on it. They did not make us pay this when we called it out, but worth keeping an eye out for this.
