About this farm stay rental
Le Terrine is a traditional stone farmhouse set amongst fields of sunflowers, tobacco and sweet peppers. It looks south and west across a valley to the tiny village of Ripoli. Renovated with traditional materials (chestnut beams, terracotta floors etc), Le Terrine provides comfortable, spacious accommodation for 8 adults plus children. Outdoors there is a large tiled 'portico' to provide shade for eating, a large terrace lined with lavender and rosemary, a large garden planted with shrubs and fruit trees and a pool (12m x 6m) on a lower terrace with shaded seating as well as ample full sun.
Despite its tranquil location, Le Terrine is only a 3 minute car journey from the medieval hilltop town of Monterchi. Monterchi, famous for the 'Madonna de Parto' painting by Pierro della Francesca has a good supermarket, bars, restaurants, shops, banks and a local market. The grander cities of Florence, Arezzo, Sienna, Perugia and Rimini are all readily accessible.
Services: The house is cleaned and maintained by Fausto and Monica who live locally. They can also provide a taxi service to airports or for a night out.
Babysitting (English speaking) and meals catered at the house can also be arranged if booked in advance.

Spectacular 'new and renovated' property. Very smart lay-out, lovely garden and truly large swimming pool. We stayed here with two families and due to the large bath rooms and bedrooms, we all had our privacy. Would highly recommend this property. Owners are very fast, friendly and helpful too.

We loved our stay at Le Terrine. Great sized house and very well-equipped with lots of spare capacity for larger groups. We spent a lot of time eating outside, swimming and exploring the local area on foot and by car. Large pool and beautiful scenery - what else do you need?

We had such a lovely time at the villa. Location is wonderful, and knowing the area we were able to go out and visit our favourite places. Villa has all mod cons, pool is magnificent ( and I have to mention both bathroom towels and pool towels - big and fluffy :)) View is amazing along the valley. Great to have some boardgames on hand and a few of us read some of the books you have there too. All in all a fantastic holiday and would not hesitate to recommend the villa to others.

Beautiful house and garden, bigger than usual pool, house carefully renovated to a good standard and very practical even for a bigger party. Great views, nice cooling wind blowing to the terrace and close enough for many great restaurants.

We had a lovely stay in Le Terrine. The property was very spacious, easily enough for our group of 6 adults and 6 kids: plenty of bedrooms, a large kitchen which was well equipped, and dining room indoors (which we didn’t use) and a terrace with a large table.
The terrace offers shade, which was very welcome during the heat when we were there. Beautiful views towards the hills of Umbria which are covered in smallish oak trees and chestnut (even in the heat of summer, the hills and valleys were green.). Harriet had provided a bit of a welcome package (thank you!) and had put fans in most rooms which helped us cope. There were also some bikes by the washing machine which we used for a few trips in the surrounding hills (very nice, but steep!)
All in all, a place I would definitely recommend. The only things I could suggest for improvement is to have the pool cleaned more (it was clean when we arrived but a few days of heavy use takes its toll), and to put a few espresso cups in the house (we didn’t find any, and no Italian home is complete without it of course :)). But those are just minor things really, the place is lovely!

Very spacious and beautiful house with all that we needed. Nice pool area and a well equipped kitchen, enough everything for a larger group. We were surprised how cool the house was even when the daily temperature was 36 or even more. Fans were needed at night, though. Fausto and Monica were also very helpful and nice. Very peaceful, still close enough to activities. Next time more than a week!

Lots of potential, but needs better maintenance and cleaning
Lots of potential, but needs better maintenance and cleaning
Harriet's Villa is in a good location for exploring a less touristy and charming part of Tuscany. Nonetheless we were disappointed and felt the villa didn't live up to the potential or the listing. It has incredible potential but my Italian friends kept describing it as "lasciata andare" or let go, not maintained.
Pros: amazing panorama, location, lots of rooms, lots of games to keep us busy, house stayed cool (except large master suite) during the hottest week of the summer, good communal eating areas, nice welcome pack of food. Pool is a good size and deep at one end
Cons:
Exterior: The gazebo had been damaged in a storm, which happens, but there was no umbrella or covering to replace it. We had partially picked this house for that feature. The outdoor shower and irrigation system didn't work so the lawns were dried out. Due to the lack of moisture and uncured brush there was an incredible quantity of insects that made time outside less enjoyable. The pool didn't have a self-cleaning system and required maintenance by us to remove dead bugs, leaves, etc each day.
Interior:
The house is rustic and charming but in many areas incredibly dusty. The paint on the walls is chipping or damaged in some rooms. The mattresses and pillows were okay but not great.

Wonderful spacious property and amazing pool
Wonderful spacious property and amazing pool
Comfortably accommodating 4 adults and 6 children we spent a relaxing two weeks in summer 18. The pool was large enough and clean and welcoming and the grounds and views beautiful. The lavender around the grounds gave off the most amazing smells.
Inside comfortably housed us 10 . The rooms all have fans but no air con but we coped
Monterchi isn’t a huge town and only a few restaurants so if you want more from the nearest town you might look elsewhere but there was enough for us and the restaurant at the top of the walled town was very atmospheric with great food.
We arrived to find a welcome pack of food and essentials in her fridge which was lovely - and lots of inflatables for the pool
A wonderful holiday .

Truly sublime villa in the most amazing spot
Truly sublime villa in the most amazing spot
We had two weeks in this fabulous villa and what an amazing place this was. Not sure how we managed to drag ourselves away from the vista down the valley or from the pool (which is where I spent most of my day). There was nothing missing from our time in the house - everything we could have needed or even thought of was provided. There was shade for my husband who behaves as if sunlight will melt him and a TV for the foot ball for my cousin as this was absolutely the most important thing.
The family joined us for the second week along with our 15month old grandson who spent most of his time 'walking' up and down the steps as was his wont. There was ample space for us all to enjoy whatever area of the house and grounds suited us best and all the rooms were cool enough that we were able to sleep very well indeed.
For me it was the unforeseen pleasure of watching the wildlife from the grand position of the upstairs loo window - hares, deer and many many birds including golden oriels which I have never seen before. At night we were serenaded by nightingales, also something I'd never heard till then. The walks around the house are not to be missed either as we also saw wild boar!
So basically this was the perfect holiday in the perfect location - thank you.

Character property in quiet Tuscany
Character property in quiet Tuscany
Situated on the border of Umbria and Tuscany. Although we experienced some minor issues the caretakers tried to assist as best as possible. The house is well equiped and easily caters for larger groups. We particularly enjoyed:
Cortona
Cita di Castello
La Verna (spectacular in quiet time) and little restaurant at the top was great
Anghiari
Monterchi, restaurants (trattoria) and deli at top of village.
Monterchi, just outside, restaurant la pieve vecchia was sensational (book in advance). Excellent waiter who replaced a slightly corked bottle of Chianti Reserva Classico on his own initiative. Top class.
Thanks Harriet and James for sharing your place with us.
Firenze is a 90min drive.

A large, generously furnished house with everything a family could want. Gorgeous hilltop towns nearby to explore, a lovely valley and woodland at one's doorstep, amazing views, and to top it all a huge, spotlessly clean pool plus generous patio area in which to enjoy the perfect Tuscan evenings. Can't fault it.

Stunning house at calm and private location
Stunning house at calm and private location
Before booking this house, I desperately tried to find a mediocre or negative comment in the earlier reviews. After having spent 9 nights at the place, I now know why I had no success.
Right on our arrival we (7 persons) learned that we had made a perfect choice by booking our holiday in this spacious house. Not only the large area around the house (table tennis, pool and a big garden which is suitable for sportive activities like badminton etc.) did overly satisfy our expectations, we also found the house to be in an excellent condition. Especially the well equipped kitchen (e.g. dishwasher, cooker, oven) and the overall cleanliness did contribute to our comfort. Since the property is so big, each of us could always decide to hang out with the group or find a private spot to relax.
It was very easy and pleasant to get in touch with the owners to clear minor things up, but the service we benefited the most from was their house book. It is a clear description of the functionalities in the house and a helpful guide for activities and food shopping in the region.
We definitely want to come back and can very well recommend this property!

Spacious house, stunning views, great pool
Spacious house, stunning views, great pool
A sympathetically modernised old farm house located in a quiet valley growing sunflowers, maize and tobacco! Very well equipped and spacious. The house has four good sized bedrooms with more on the second floor stairs which we did not use. At the side of the house is a pleasant loggia terrace area with superb views overlooking the valley. The excellent pool is reached by steps down from the same terrace.
Many hill top towns are within easy reach of the farmhouse. Our favourite was Aghiari where there was a music festival in full swing during our stay.
We hired road bikes from BikingTeam in Arrezzo who were very friendly and cycled up to a few of the hill top towns, including Citerna, Monterchi and Aghiari as well as up to and around the reservoir Montedoglio.
All in all a very pleasant week.

ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS!!!😎
ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS!!!😎
From the moment I first saw the pictures of this truly stunning property to the ease and friendliness of communicating with Harriet, the entire process was totally hassle free!
Upon our arrival to the beautiful 'Le Terrine', a sumptuous Welcome Basket was waiting for us which honestly covered everything had one not wanted to venture out to our very local nearby supermarket. This was very appreciated!
The property itself is simply amazing!! The attention to detail & personal touches throughout really make you feel 'at home' the instant you walk through the door and then begin to explore the many other rooms & period charm & love that has been bestowed on this charming farmhouse.
Every consideration has been made to what you as a guest might need, there really was nothing that I could not find or wish I brought!
The main objective of our trip was so that my husband & I could have a total break away from it all & wow did this deliver!!
The sheer bliss of having the huge pool greedily all to ourselves, surrounded by lavender, birdsong & busy bees or sitting on the shaded terrace over looking Tuscan landscapes whist sipping wine & eating local delicacies really was pure bliss!
We both could not recommend this property more highly, location, amenities, cleanliness, decor etc etc. This really does have it all!
Thank you again Harriet & Adam, can't wait to return, we absolutely loved it!!! Michelle & Nick xxx

Planning this trip was very straightforward, the house owners are prompt and responsive and they seem concerned to ensure that we had a good stay; booking and paying was a straightforward process. We received a welcome booklet for the property before our holiday, this was usseful in planning activities for the holiday. We were sent the key before we left and very clear instructions enabling us to find the property effortlessly, (something that we are usually hopeless at).We arrived at the property at about 3.30 on a glorious August afternoon. We had seen the pictures but they did not prepare us for what a lovely house this is. It really felt idyllic, sensitivity planted with lavender, figs and peaches. The house has many lovely rooms, well furnished with comfortable and pleasing furniture. And there is loads of room, there were only 4 of us so we never went up to the top floor. The house was well stocked with games and activities, including a full sized table tennis table. Everyone was very pleased with their rooms. The kitchen worked well, but was the only place that we could find a socket to charge our phones and laptops so those sockets were busy. There was good wifi coverage. There are many books, many DVDS, games and 2 bikes. The swimming pool is large and in a beautiful location, a really tranquil place to relaxI strongly recommend this farmhouse and I hope at some point in the future to go back again, with a few more people.

This is the perfect venue for a family, extended family or family plus friends holiday! The farmhouse has a grand, yet comfortable feel. There is plenty of room for guests either to come together in the comfortable sitting room, large dining room, or scenic terrace, or to spread out and have quiet time - depending on your preferences! The gardens a wonderful, planted with fruit trees, with the most beautiful views across the country. The swimming pool is ideal for energetic games, swimming lengths or wallowing in quietly to cool down. There is also a table tennis table - perfect for a tournament between guests. Great fun! The property is extremely well equipped for all needs. You don't have the frustration of having one knife, fork and plate for each guest - there is plenty for everyone! Just like being at home! The whole ambiance is tranquil and you can be as relaxed or active as you want to be. The property is well positioned to have day trips to the main cities and sites in Tuscany and parts of Umbria. We have visited Florence, pizza and Perugia on day trips as well as more local towns and sites.I would recommend this property to anyone - and we fully intend to revisit! Thank you for a most wonderful holiday.

Fantastic Tuscan Villa with amazing views
The Farmhouse has been lovingly refurbished and has everything you need for a relaxing family holiday. The layout is perfect with many secluded spots to relax; whether you want the sunshine or the shade, all are very private and the views are wonderful. We could have spent all the time in the villa but there is so much to do on the doorstep, fantastic local restaurants and walks, plus we visited Sienna and Assisi. Great attention to detail, the owners are more than happy to help with anything before you depart plus useful information on the local area in the Farmhouse. We would highly recommend this and would love to return.

Our favourite spot in Italy!
We are lucky enough to have stayed in this fabulous house a few times now - and we return because we have a guaranteeably wonderful holiday. The house itself is elegant, well appointed and flexible. The pool area is a great place to while away hot afternoons with a book. The location itself is magical; close enough to Monterchi and other villages/towns to provide holiday essentials, such as the incomparable Marcello's "supermarket", good restaurants and interesting places to visit, but tucked away in the hills enough to feel totally private. We don't think much can beat the view down the valley from the terrace at 6 o'clock with a nice bottle of red wine.

My family and I (including 5 children) had a wonderful time in this beautiful house. The house felt so homelike and was clearly lovingly restored. The countryside was breathtaking. Perfect evenings by the pool in the balmy heat, with the soothing scent of lavender and rosemary wafting through the air. The views down the valley and across to the delightful village of Monterchi were stunning. We had day trips to Arezzo and Siena- both lovely. Easily accessible, good local shops/fresh produce including the local wine from friendly Marcello.
An absolutely perfect holiday. Thankyou so much.

Picture perfect
From the moment we drove along the track leading to the porperty we knew that this was going to be a wonderful place to stay for all of us; 6 adults and one small child. The pictures don't truly reflect the beautiful family home with everything you could possibly need for a relaxing holiday.
Every last detail had been considered from the welcome pack to the bountiful supply of large beach towels and DVDs for siesta time with a 2 year old!.The property was spotlessly clean and all the rooms very spacious - it was a delight exploring each one when we arrived.
The pool was in constant use and the terrace a lovely cool retreat where all our meals were eaten. The fig tree and peach trees were laden with delicious fruit and in the evening just the sound of the crickets as we sat drinking a glass of wine and gazing across the hillside and down the valley.
The instructions given were perfect from how to get there down to the restaurants recommended and of course the wonderful Marcello and his supermarket where anything could be bought. The owners couldn't have been more helpful.
The house is situated in a perfect location for sightseeing places like Sienna, Pisa and Florence if you can tear yourself away from this little piece of heaven. One week wasn't nearly enough and we all can't wait to return. This was a holiday never to be forgotten for all the right reasons.

Tuscany 2010
Tuscany 2010
An excellent house in a very beautiful part of Tuscany. We had a week here June and enjoyed it hugely. The house is enormous, we only took up three of the four large bedrooms on the first floor. Every room was very well set out with everything we could need and comfy beds. The two large bathrooms were more than enough, especially with one downstairs and another upstairs. We did not use the second floor but it would be particularly good for kids rooms. The ground floor has a dining room which we did not use as we either ate outside or in the kitchen, which has a large dining table. We spent a lot of our time cooking up the local produce and this was the perfect place for it. There is also a lounge area just off the kitchen with plenty of seating. The building itslef is reatains all of its old world charm and has clearly been renovated with this in mind. It retails the feel of a Tuscan farmhouse which was especially good for those visiting from Australia.
The outside terrace was where we spent our evening relaxing, eating and drinking a bit too much of the supermarket owner, Marcello's, local wine. They also make some very tasty sausages if you get the chance to visit. Just down from the terrace is a huge pool that really made the days relaxing a treat. From everywhere outside the house there are excellent views of the surrounding country side.
There are planty of things to do in the surrounding area but maybe not as many as some of the more touristy parts of Tuscany. For us, this was a huge positive. Sansepolcro is the local town and has plenty of restaurants and shopping. There a few good restaurants within a short drive of Terrine and a small but good supermarket. Make sure you stop in for a drink in the small bar to meet the locals!
We can't wait to book another holiday here next year and would consider visiting at any time of the year. The house would suit people of all ages. We ranged from 31 to 71 and everyone enjoyed the stay at Terrine. We had no problems finding the property and the owners were extremely helpful making us feel welcome in their Italian holiday home.

Relax and unwind
Relax and unwind
Arriving at Le Terrine in the Tuscan hills was a true pleasure. Fabulous views in a quiet setting, a perfect place to relax and unwind. I will most certainly be back with my family. Unlike some holidays where you feel you need another to get over it, I came home and felt rejuvenated. Le Terrine has everything you could possibly want for either a quiet holiday for two or for you and your family. It was a privilege to be able to stay in such a wonderful home. We arrived sunday having driven 2hrs from Pisa, so the welcome pack, which was very generous, was a lovely touch. The pool was our first port of call, perfectly set looking out towards the Tuscan hills. The local mini mart where very friendly and sell local produce and meats, cheeses, vegetables and fruits, the wine large flagon of wine was a very good price and was very palatable. I would recommend pork and sausage kebab on the fresh meat counter, lovely on the bbq.

A Villa Beyond Our Expectations
A Villa Beyond Our Expectations
From the carefully written directions to the excellent welcome pack, our arrival at Le Terrine was stress-free, which has not always been our experience with Tuscan villas! We were a family group, with a baby of nine months and a great granny of 92, with the rest of us between, and everything about our stay was wonderful for guests of all ages.
The villa is secluded and private (the 3 nearby properties do not overlook the terrace, pool etc) but only 5 minutes by car from Monterchi, a pretty as a picture little hilltop gem, and the views from the villa are truly spectacular; even though we had seen the pictures on the website it took our breath away. We had the master bedroom, which is grand and vaulted, but the view is even better from the other back bedroom. The top floor is a teenagers paradise, but also (in our case) a semi-private family suite for parents and baby.
Everything at Le Terrine has been planned with thought - the side terrace has sun all day, the rear terrace lets you watch the setting sun as the barbeque coals glow and you sip the last of your evening wine (try Marcello's wine at the local shop in Monterchi, you won't regret it!) and the beautiful fig tree provides early evening shade just perfect for a granny and her aperitif.
Inside, there is a room for whatever the weather or time of day, and on very hot days a cool breeze wafts through. The bathrooms are spacious and we never ran out of hot water even with 8 of us showering.
The pool is a good size, (I have seen smaller pools shared) and as well as plentiful sunbeds there is a shady gazebo, very useful for baby. (Incidentally there is also an excellent selection of baby equipment, just check with the owners - we had absolutely everything we needed.) There are quite a few steps to the pool area, so great granny took the long route across the gently sloping lawn.
But the best thing by far about Le Terrine is that it is a real family home, unpretentious, comfortable, equipped to bursting! You can feel the love and laughter oozing from its beautiful stone walls, and i am sure that every family that stays there, comes to think of it, as we did, as their very own.

Marvellous villa splendid views
Marvellous villa splendid views
We had one of the best holidays ever at Le Terrine. The villa is exceptionally well equipped, very clean and welcoming. It has everything you could possibly need and MORE. The views are amazing and the pool area is delightful. Our children would easily spend every day in the pool and had to be dragged away to do a bit of sight seeing. The cool sitting room was a real retreat from the heat of the midday sun to watch a film or play one of the many boardgames that are on offer. The house is a wonderful place for a relaxing holiday or indeed could easily accommodate a large gathering of family or friends. It is very private and not overlooked at all. Your own little bit of paradise. Monterchi is close at hand and the local supermarket is owned by some real characters who insist you try their wine from their vineyard or the occasional coffee free of charge from their little cafe. The whole experience was delightful and the locals are friendly and charming. Anghiari and Arezzo are close at hand as is Siena, one of our favourite places. Smashing holiday in a wonderfully generous villa.

Le Terrine in August 2009
A fantastic holiday house. Beautifully situated with lovely views of wooded hills in a peaceful country side containing fields of sunflowers, tobacco, grapes, vines, walnut, peach and apple trees. The house is spacious, clean and well maintained with excellent kitchen and multiple bathrooms. A well tended garden with rosemary, lavender bushes and peach trees lies adjacent to a large swimming pool. The house is situated a little outside Monterchi and is excellently for sight-seeing, eating, markets and (if not too hot) walking. We had a fabulous time and would recommend the house enthusiastically to any family wanting a home plus pool in Tuscany/Umbria. The ONLY concern would be that the lack of fencing round the pools might make the house rather less relaxing for parents of toddlers. Otherwise, top rating.

Review of le Terrine
Review of le Terrine
We have visited Italy for the past 6 summers, and have stayed at Le Terrine for the two most recent trips. The setting is lovely, not remote and yet very private and the views are wonderful. The house is very well equipped and has a generous-spirited, family feel about it - the furniture is attractive and the bathrooms are very nicely done with great showers. The pool is a good size with plenty of sunbeds positioned on the stone surround plus a very nice wood-framed gazebo for shade. Also, the house is always beautifully clean - and the gardens are well maintained.
Monterchi (within cycling distance) is a great hill top town with a central square with nice bar and the local supermarket sells the owner's amazing home-made salami and sausages; everybody is very friendly. We hired the local tennis court and discovered good ice cream in the bar where you book.
This area of Italy is one of our favourites - near to Siena - and there is plenty to see and do but also enough to keep you happily closer to home.
