The Mountain Camp at Mesilau, Kundasang by PrimaStay

This was our second visit to The Mountain Camp at Mesilau, Kundasang, and once again, we had a wonderful experience. The place is very well maintained—even after almost two years since our last stay, everything remains in excellent condition. We also noticed improvements in the camping facilities, which made our stay even more comfortable. The surroundings are beautifully cared for, and we were warmly welcomed as if reuniting with old friends. The owner is always attentive, providing updates and ensuring we were well taken care of throughout our stay. We are truly satisfied and will definitely come back again in the future. Exceptional host, went above and beyond with customer service. Stunning views and easy access to a gorgeous and refreshing private creek for frolicking and easing sore hiking muscles. We also enjoyed our campfire!

For the price point, you would expect proper sleeping pads in the cabins (not inflatable camping pads that deflate overnight), towels and basic toiletries.

We had a fantastic stay at the Mountain Camp. Our hosts went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable, offering advice on places of interest and hikes, engaging in interesting conversations, and adding a personal touch to our stay. The location is beautiful, with idyllic scenery, a stunning river right next to the camp, and a lovely Spring Garden you can visit next door. The camp was set up based on our preferences, ensuring that our needs were met even before we checked in. While it is still camping, the camp is both comfortable and clean, and the wonderful stargazing at night adds to the experience. I highly recommend Mountain Camp at Mesilau to anyone seeking a unique, and for me, nostalgic experience. Whether you're a nature lover or just looking to take a break from the fast-paced city life, the Mountain Camp ticks all the boxes.

A bench seat in the cabin would have been a lovely addition for when the weather is not so good.

It's a hidden gem in Kundasang, at the door step of Mt Kinabalu, a place where you can see the three highest peaks of Malaysia in one spot. Very friendly and responsive host, provided all information and stuff that we need. Camping may sound cumbersome and unhygienic for some but we had a complete opposite experience here at this site. The camp site is comfortable, room and bathroom are very clean and tidy. The dining area is equipped with tools and utensils that we need for steamboat dinner. Hot water supply in the premise is great, we enjoyed hot shower in the cold weather. Not forgetting WiFi connection for urbanites like us, to keep us connected while staying in a rural area. Probably because of the cold weather, surprisingly we don't encounter much problem with insects like mosquitos. While there is no TV in the room, hosts have prepared some programs like campfire and making popcorn as well as star gazing at night to keep us entertained. Had a great chat with the host till late evening, highly recommend this place to anyone who would like to camp.

Nothing. Our 5 year old kid can't wait to come back here again. Just some small remark which is not really a big deal: 1. The house doesn't have mosquito net installed on the window, so the room could be a little stuffy, but you can turn on the fan in the room, so not really a big problem 2. Not all units have the beds on ground floor, so if you have elderly campers with you, please inform host to keep the beds on ground floor to avoid climbing up and down the staircase. Or simply book earlier and request host to reserve house that is elderly friendly 3. Remember to keep your shoes and socks indoor as the morning dew could be heavy enough to soak them wet.
