Ranch House

The property is gorgeous. It feels homely and cosy. I enjoyed cooking on the stove, and once the fire was on, it heat up nicely and the property also retained the heat overnight, so we didn't wake up cold. We all slept really well, the campsite itself was really quiet and even though we had neighbours we barely heard them. The location is beautiful, and although the weather wasn't perfect (it is Scotland) we did manage to spot some stars, including a glimmer of the Milky Way thanks to there being no external lights on the campsite. We had our own bathroom which was great and the shower was lovely and warm. The property was clean,

The property itself was spotless (bedding, surfaces, floor, and bathroom). However, we had to wash a lot of the kitchen stuff we were using, it all felt greasy and some of the cutlery was visibly covered in grease. Obviously, this was the previous occupants but maybe just a reminder to the owners to have a wee check. The cupboards in the kitchen, although beautiful (the worktop is stunning) the cupboards are a bit messy and tricky to reach into. We had to take the kettle in the property into the owners after we realised the bottom surface was coming away and causing a slimeyness - we couldn't work out why our tea/coffee tasted awful all week. They gave us another one, but it wasn't much better, so we gave up on hot drinks.

The Ranchhouse was an idyllic rustic, cosy & peaceful Christmas retreat. We were so snug & comfortable due to the fabulous aga range & very comfy beds. The location on the outskirts of the Galloway forest was stunning with the nightsky especially spectacular. We managed to cook an entire leg of lamb Christmas dinner without any issues! There are several modcons which really made our break over Christmas very functional & easy. The shower room was lovely, fab rainfall shower very spacious area plenty of hanging hooks and storage. We were kindly offered a dining table by our host Hazel, but enjoyed a laid-back meal around the fire. Hazel is an excellent host nothing was too much trouble as we required a few extra utensils which were readily supplied. A stunning site with spotless little toilet rooms with charming features adorning every nook. This campsite is certain to be just as incredible in the warmer months. The closest you could get to a traditional olde-worlde style family Christmas we loved it, couldn't have had a better break. 10/10 all round!

Having to leave!

The ranch was pleasant but wasn't very clean. The toilet was dirty on arrival and pots and cutlery was dirty. However it was a nice camping/touring site in the middle of nowhere.
