Petit Helvetia Budget Hotel

Very convenient location. With heavy backpacks it was an easy stroll from the train station. We had a room at the front with a shared balcony. We loved this little space but it was noisy at night. You can request a room at the back which I would recommend. It’s a budget hotel and budget is what you get. But it was good value for Zermatt. It is quirky and full of character which we love but if you are looking for high end comfort, look elsewhere and be prepared to spend more! Decent breakfast included in the price.

Very noisy room at the front but to be fair, the listing did mention this and we could have requested a room at the back. The lady serving breakfast was rather abrupt and unfriendly…. We sat at a free table and felt like school children being told off when she told us to move as it was apparently laid up for lunch. It felt rather embarrassing in front of other guests. No lift…. Not a problem for us but if you are less fit with heavy cases, it could be a problem .

The hotel is few minutes walk from the train station. There are a few restaurants around the hotel included the famous cheese fondue. The Matterhorn sunrise view is just few minutes walk. Breakfast is included. Check in check out process is speedy. Love the balcony.

Easily walkable from train station and positioned to put you closer to the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise gondola. Located in heart of the town. Good sized room. Breakfast spread was great.

Shower was laughably tiny--tighter than a phone booth. Windows opened onto alley way full of trash and junk. And we had a terrible exchange with a morning staff person. When we arrived, the lobby was closed and a list of guests and room numbers were posted on the door, with a peg board of keys on the adjacent wall. We had two rooms. We checked our room numbers and grabbed what we thought were our keys (Room 4 and 5), stowed our gear and left to tour the area for the day. The next morning when we came down for breakfast, the employee told us we had taken the wrong keys (should have been rooms 14 and 15). She was very cross and said it had caused a problem because another guest with a heart issue had wanted a lower floor room and we had taken their room. I apologized, told her it was entirely my fault, and offered to change rooms right then, but she said it didn't matter for the second night and kept saying it was wrong that we took the other keys. We were left standing there kind of dumbfounded with her scolding because I'm not sure at that point what she wanted us to do. The hotel had my cell phone number and my email address and the hotel has a small number of rooms. Had they contacted me the previous day I would have raced back to the hotel and switched the rooms. Had they entered our rooms, we weren't unpacked and they could have moved our luggage to a common area or checked our luggage tags to confirm our name as the offending guest. The whole situation was handled unprofessionally and could have been resolved the previous day with a little resourcefulness. So no, I can't recommend this hotel in spite of its benefits, because guest should expect to be treated with kindness and respect, especially if the guests are being polite and forthright. Sometimes tired travelers make mistakes.
