I liked everything

The location of this hotel is very convenient. It is close to the main shopping streets and within walking distance of many central Kyoto attractions, restaurants, and transport options. During our stay we were initially given a room on Level 5 (Room 521) where the WiFi was extremely poor. After raising this with reception we were moved to another room on Level 10 (Room 1021). The WiFi there was excellent, so credit to the staff for resolving the issue quickly. The room change also resolved the sheet issue mentioned in my negative comments. The hotel’s common areas appeared clean and reasonably well maintained.

The bed was very hard and the pillows were extremely small and soft, which made it difficult to sleep comfortably. The sheets also appeared to irritate the skin, which made the night even more uncomfortable. Air circulation in the room was poor and the internet connection was unreliable. Had to open the windows slightly to let the air replenish. If you are allocated a room facing the main street, be aware that the noise can be significant. There were cars revving loudly and people shouting in the street well into the early hours of the morning. The noise continued until around 1am, 2am and even 3am. Anyone staying here would be well advised to request a room facing the rear of the hotel rather than the street side. The biggest disappointment was the breakfast. The basic elements expected of a hotel breakfast were missing. There were only boiled eggs and burnt scrambled eggs, with no option to have eggs cooked in any other style. The juice selection was extremely limited and did not even include something simple such as orange juice. For the price charged, the breakfast offering was far below expectations. After seeing what was available we chose to go to the café next door instead. Charging guests for a breakfast of this standard is difficult to justify, and the hotel should either significantly improve the quality and selection or reconsider the price being charged.
