Ideally situated to explore Dumfries and Galloway and a stone's throw from the Galloway Forest. The lodge was spacious, comfortable and reasonably well equipped. Staff were friendly and helpful. Supermarkets a very short drive away. Newton Stewart is walkable.
The lodge was showing its age in a few areas. The woodwork was going in places, dodgy fridge door, oven door loose on hinges, towel rail dangerously hot in shower room, light on extractor not working and would've been nice to have had the robes included in the price. We couldn't open the window in the double bedroom and the lock had to be replaced. Plughead came apart on a lamp in the twin downstairs room and lamp didn't work in the upstairs room, (may have been the supplied extension cable). The weather was hot and the lodge became very hot and no fans within the lodge, (we did not check to see if any were available on demand). The only issue of the above that we reported was the locked window in the double room. This was repaired immediately by staff so no complaints. Despite the above minor issues we enjoyed our stay the lodge and site are recommended.
