Town: Porthmadog, a bustling harbour town on the Glaslyn Estuary, has a beautiful setting. Porthmadog, the gateway to the Snowdonia National Park, is full of unique shops and restaurants, as well as the Ffestiniog Railway, which travels by steam through spectacular Snowdonia scenery to Blaenau Ffestiniog. Borth Y Gest, with its cliffs and coves, is a short walk or drive away from the town. Portmeirion, a well-known and unique Italianate village, is just down the coast. Portmeirion, located on a rugged clifftop on its own private peninsula, is famous for being the setting for the TV show The Prisoner and the final episode of Cold Feet. It is surrounded by miles of sandy beaches and woodlands. The area also has castles at Criccieth and Harlech, as well as beautiful undeveloped beaches like Black Rock Sands, where the sands stretch as far as the eye can see.
