Clean, characterful apartment well managed.

There was a lot of character to the apartment and it was in an ideal location for us as we were travelling by train. The hosts responded very quickly to a problem with the windows so that was great.

We were just a little worried what would have happened if there had been a fire. Didn’t seem to be a smoke detector or means of fire escape. There were a lot of mosquitoes but that probably can’t be helped at this time of year!

Close to the main sights

Close to many of the main sights. It was a bonus to be able to bring our bikes inside and leave them by the stairs on the ground floor.

The building is in average-to-poor condition, so getting up to the flat is not encouraging, but once you are in it, things get better. Parking is possible nearby but is metered during the day, with a maximum of a 4 hour stay. Driving in Central Arles is slow and difficult currently with lots of roadworks, closed roads, and diversions.

Good location needs a clean

The host was wonderful,She sent us information about Avignon, restaurant recommendations,she permitted us early entry to the apartment and was a hundred percent responsive to our emails. The flat was large with good WiFi,and an excellent shower, it had two bedrooms and a kitchen with a seating area. We had no problems with noise, and it was central to Avignon city centre. We were literally a few minutes walk from everything. You couldn't find a better location.

On the negative side,the building's staircase was in a terrible state of repair. I was seriously worried walking up to the third floor . We have lived in old rickety buildings so we were not unduly surprised by the peeling paint or missing tiles but it looks run down . We were surprised by the finger prints on the dirty doors in the flat,dirty walls with scruff marks, blood on the wall,food or coffee splatters down the kitchen units, stained sofa, it all looked and felt neglected and unloved.I wonder if our host uses a cleaning company and has no idea of how dirty the flat is. We found rubbish hidden on the shelf, very strange. It just needs a good scrubbing or a paint job. Then it would have been wonderful. The bathroom was ok. Shower great. One key for 3 adults is not enough. Each time someone wanted to come in you had to walk down three flights of stairs to let them in. You couldn't pull the door to the flat closed as it needed locking.
