My husband and I stayed for a full week in a Deluxe room on the first floor. Our adult son stayed for two weeks — starting in a Deluxe room on the first floor with us, then moving to a Superior room on the third floor for his second week. Location: Unbeatable if you want to be in the heart of Old City, Chiang Mai — walkable to Chang Mai Gate, the Saturday and Sunday walking markets, and dozens of temples. Lots of energy, always something happening, great for nightlife, music, and people-watching. It's touristy and commerce-driven, but the Thai staff and locals were consistently kind, even while clearly working — they mostly left us to ourselves, which we appreciated. I'm an introvert, and even I ended up meeting a lot of people here. We walked 12,000–16,000 steps a day exploring — a genuinely wonderful way to see a beautiful, historic city. Staff — the real highlight: Tet Tet and the team were the heart of this stay. I asked to exchange our towels daily, and she did it without complaint, no questions asked. Partway through the stay, I let her know I wanted to clean my own room rather than have housekeeping come in — she made sure I had everything for a full room servicing myself: fresh towels, clean sheets, garbage bags, fresh drinking water, toilet paper, and cleaning supplies. After I did it myself, the room felt great again. I also found that the coffee pot's handle was already broken and pointed it out to her — she replaced it right away, no questions asked. (I'd nearly burned myself using it, though thankfully the hot water just spilled onto the counter instead.) That kind of flexibility and attentiveness made a real difference. Room: No kitchen access (there's a small café and dining room, though we mostly ate out). The rooms were rustic/authentic rather than modern — open-concept wet bathrooms with a rain shower, hand sprayer, reliable hot water, a decorative pebble strip along one wall, and a corrugated acrylic roof panel that let in natural light and was lovely to fall asleep to when it rained. Our room was on the ground floor, garden-style layout — you step directly from your room into a shared covered corridor, so there's some guest foot traffic. Things to know before you go: The designated smoking area really needs rethinking. There are several small tables lined up along the walkway directly across from the rooms — it would otherwise be a lovely spot to sit outside, but it's constantly saturated with cigarette smoke, so non-smokers can't use it at all, and you also can't open your window or door because of it. A separate, more removed area for smokers would help a lot. Outlets are also very limited, likely due to old-building construction codes — none in the bathroom, and only a handful in the room itself. Worth bringing a small power strip. There's no wax ring under the toilet, which is apparently common in Thailand, so a faint sewage odor can come up from the commode — running the exhaust fan and AC on dehumidify for 10–15 minutes a few times a day cleared it out for us. The AC also seemed to run on a timer, waking us around 2–4am some nights when the room warmed up. There was ongoing renovation noise from a house across the alley, roughly 7am to 3 or 4pm most days, and the rooms are lightly insulated overall, so you'll hear other guests and street noise. Earplugs handled it for me, but light sleepers should be prepared. Bottom line: I'm normally very sound-sensitive, and the noise still became just part of daily life rather than a real problem. What made this stay special was the staff, especially Tet Tet — genuinely one of the best hosting experiences we've had. Highly recommend for anyone wanting an authentic, immersive week in Old City.

Basic needs covered, very central in Chiang mai. There’s a nice cafe/restaurant downstairs. There are requirements to keep quiet after 10PM so isn’t a loud party hostel. Getting a double room to yourself is definitely worth it & the staff were kind & very accommodating.
