This was our fourth visit to Gite Dune. A lovely property in an excellent location, clean and well equipped with comfortable beds and excellent WiFi. Private outside sitting area with views across the orchard. A short drive from Omaha Beach (5 mins), Bayeax (15 mins) and Caen (20 Mins). Would definitely stay again.

The house was immaculate and very tastefully decorated. Well equipped kitchen. Beautiful setting with extensive garden. Excellent location near the beautiful town of Bayeux. A good base to learn the history of World War 2, very close to the museums. Walking distance to the Overlord museum and American Cemetery. Only 2Km from Omaha beach, where there is a water sports centre, also sand biking and sand yachting. Owner met us on arrival, a big bonus is that he lives on site, therefore is available for queries, not that we had any.

This is our second stay at Gite Dune. Spacious gite set in lovely gardens, three good sized bedrooms and large kitchen/diner. Lovely to have the use of the wood burner (David provides logs) and plenty of space to relax in the evening. Short distance to Omaha beach and short (15 min) drive to all the shops in Bayeaux. Hoping to be back next year!

We really enjoyed our stay in gite Dune. It is well decorated with a beautiful garden. Colleville is very central to visit all D-day places, even on walking distance. The owner is kind and helpful.

The gite was just as good, if not better, than shown and described on the website. Every aspect was more than satisfactory, from bathrooms - brilliant showers - to beds - most comfortable - sitting room and TV showing BBC World News. Cannot write too highly of all the facilities which included a daily delivery of baguette and croissants, did we enjoy those breakfasts!! The siting of the Gite in Colleville sur Mer was perfect, just a stones throw from Omaha Beach and a superb place to be on the year of the 75th Anniversary of D Day landings. We, all four liked David Lamaire the owner, and he could not do. enough for us which included a supply of Normandie cider and calvados. David was a superb host and meeting with him added to the enjoyment of the holiday. There are no adverse comments to make only praise for a superbly sited and well furnished gite. It was in the most lovely quiet village with in good quick trips to places of interest. My brother-in-law hadn’t been before so we returned again this year to show him the beach where his dad landed in the war, Sword beach. But the cottage and the garden were a delight to wake up to in the mornings, miss it already. Hopefully we will be back one day.

The Lamarie gite has it all. Modern, spotless clean and exceptionally well appointed. It is exactly as the photos depict. Perhaps even better, if that's possible. If estate agents' rule of measurement were applied (location, location, location) then the gite meets that gold standard. If one wishes peace and quiet, the pastoral farm setting means the most disturbing noise are songbirds singing. For me however, the farm and Colleville-sur-Mere (CsM) was perfectly centered in the heart of the D-day landings on 6 June 1944. Especially the action at Omaha Beach. LITERALLY within 200 meters of the gite , is the entry point to the American Cemetary. Imagine going from a relaxing bucolic setting to the '44 grounds. Of special note also is probably the best war museum in Normandy outside the Caen Memorial and the Airborne Museum at St Mere Eglise. The Overlord Museum is small in comparison but is exceptionally well done -- focused, and with excellent staff. IMO it should not be missed especially since it is also only a stone's throw from the gite. The Lamarie Farm itself is also part of D-day history. Famously, the story about a German sergeant collecting milk each day is true. And, on 6 June his milk round was violently interrupted when the Allied bombardment hit the farm, barely missing the sergeant and David's grandmother (a young girl at the time). A good part of the farm buildings were severely damaged. Sometime after the war the sergeant returned and helped put on a new roof! (Anyone who's seen the film "The Longest Day" remembers the famous milk scene) Drawbacks to all of Colleville are: scarcity of nearby restaurants or a grocery store (Super-U is about 15 minutes drive away). Neither lack is more than a minor irritation. The host family (David, wife Claudine) were perfect in all respects.. The welcoming two chilled bottles of David's homemade cider in the fridge were lip-smacking good. So thank you David AND Claudine for an unforgettable experience.

David and Claudine welcomed us to their gite, after coming to find us as we got a little lost. The gite is well equipped, stylishly decorated and comfortable. The location is very quiet and excellent location for some star gazing. You can walk to the Overload Museum and American cemetery. We took a drive to the beach but you could walk if you wanted to. Several other Omaha museums are within a very short drive. We had a welcome bottle of David's home produced cider which was delicious. We were left to enjoy the tranquility of the gite but with knowledge that David or Claudine were close by if we needed anything. Overall a most enjoyable stay in Normandy.

I'd thoroughly recommend this property for a couple, or small family, who would like to explore Normandy. The D-Day Beaches, wonderful gardens, towns, cities and of course the stunning beaches, are all within easy travelling distance. The gite itself is well equipped and was very clean and tidy when we arrived. The outside space is vast and private, and is a beautiful tranquil place to sit and enjoy. The spiral staircase was an initial concern of ours since the twin bedroom is accessed via it, and it's on a different floor to the double bedroom and rest of the property (all on the ground level). Our 3 &3/4 year old was very careful so everything was ok. The gite is very close to Omaha beach which is a stunning place. The owners were very friendly, responsive and helpful when we needed anything. The icing on the cake was the boulangerie which delivered to the door 6 days a week :-) I would whole heartedly recommend staying here.

The house is a great place for a family vacation. It's tastefully decorated, conveniently located and comfortable. It's got everything you need for a comfortable stay. It would be even better with a fireplace or stove. The surroundings are beautiful and the homemade cider was delicious. David was a great host, reacted quickly and was really helpful. We're definitely planning on coming back.

We stayed at the cottage "Dune," which is a sensitively converted farm building. Décor is modern and tasteful, and the place was spotlessly clean. The cottage is spacious and warm (April was a little chilly), and had everything we needed. As a family we especially enjoyed the table football! The garden/orchard (this is a cider farm) is a lovely outdoor space. The local area is very rural and peaceful, with hardly any traffic, with beautiful houses, farms and churches. David and Claudine were perfect hosts. Communication before our visit was excellent and they always replied top our messages swiftly, showing great patience. They were on-site every day and quickly responded to our enquires, showing us kindness and consideration at all times. We enjoyed our chats - they have an interesting story about David's grandmother at the time of the occupation! We loved the gift of home-produced cider and Pommeau liqueur which we found in the fridge. This is for sale at a reasonable price and us very tasty! There are many D-day beaches and museums in the area. The "Overlord Museum" at Omaha beach is literally a 5 minute walk or 1 minute drive away, and the American cemetery about a 2 minute drive. We also visited Arromanches, which is a must to see the remains of the Mulberry Harbours - the museum here gives the history of the landings ("Gold" beach) and how the harbours were built. The 360 degree film cinema is worth the walk up the hill or drive around to see. Bayeux is about 15 mins by car, where as well as the Tapestry, British cemetery and museum, there are several large supermarkets. We'd recommend Mont Saint Michel, which is about an hour and a half by car, but worth the trek. There are well-stewarded car parks here (cost about 11 Euros for the day) with free shuttle buses to the island, which is free to enter. The Abbey cost 10 Euros for adults and free for children, though you can have a lovely day just walking around the island, without going in here. Food is very expensive though! Altogether we would highly recommend this gîte, because of the perfect location, beautiful home from home, and the warm welcome and kindness of our hosts. Merci beaucoup David et Claudine!

Just returning home after a brilliant weeks holiday. The Gite was quiet but perfectly placed for exploring the area. Plenty of room for 2 adults and 2 boys (who enjoyed the table Football and huge garden), very comfy beds and a well equipped kitchen. Claudine and David were excellent hosts and did so much to help us. Although they do not live onsite they were always available on the phone/email if we had any questions. Only tip would be to include some basic cooking items (salt, pepper, oil) and extra directions to the property before arriving as the address isnt exact. But even then, they drove out to meet us and guided us in. Thank you for having us!
