About this house rental
The Casa del Rais, perched on the cliffs below Solanto Castle, offers breathtaking views and private access to the sea.
This historic residence—the former home of the Rais—was also used for spotting tuna and signaling the start of the Mattanza. Today, the old Rais’s house has been completely renovated to the highest standards of design and comfort, making it one of a kind.
The space
The property consists of two units:
Unit 1: a detached cottage on the cliffs featuring a kitchen, living room, bathroom, and an elegant terrace. The home’s highlights include the spacious terrace with ocean views, enhanced by a glass structure that creates a seamless transition from the outdoor space to the sea, giving you the sensation that you can almost touch it.
Here, your gaze will drift toward the horizon where the sea meets the sky.
The unit is equipped with a smart TV, Wi-Fi, and air conditioning. The kitchen features a gas stove, dishwasher, oven, and coffee maker.
From this unit, you can reach the sea via a rocky path. An outdoor shower and a barbecue are also available.
Unit 2: features 2 double bedrooms, four single beds in an open-concept layout, three bathrooms, and a terrace. The unit is arranged over two floors and a loft. On the first floor is the elegantly furnished outdoor terrace, complete with built-in sofas and comfortable cushions where you can relax. Upon entering the house, you’ll find yourself in a living area with a dining table, the kitchen, the first double bedroom with a sea view, and a bathroom. The first bedroom is cooled by a ceiling fan.
On the first floor, there is the second double bedroom with a sea view, a bathroom, and two single beds in an open-concept space. Both rooms are equipped with air conditioning.
Finally, there is a loft with two additional single beds, ideal for children (the ceiling is approximately 1.80m high). The open-concept space features efficient air conditioning.
Both units are located near the prestigious Solanto Castle within the historic tuna fishery. Adjacent to the property is a Yacht Club where you can rent motorboats and sailboats, as well as go snorkeling and scuba diving with an instructor.
There are excellent restaurants in the area serving traditional Sicilian cuisine and seafood.

The Rias house is really a detached condo of sorts. I was confused to begin with. There is the main house - small kitchen/dining area leading to a large, covered outdoor seating area (also the main entrance to the house), bedroom and bathroom adjoining the kitchen/dining area with additional bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs. Just below the covered outdoor seating area are stairs leading down to a separate living area on the rocks overlooking the ocean containing another dining/kitchen/bathroom and a huge outdoor deck. We spent most of our time down here....large sliding doors that literally extend the living space outdoors. The condo is located in a private 'beach club' that must really bustle in the summer months. On Sunday during our visit, there were families sailing and swimming in the beach club area and it was lovelly to share the beach with them. The Rais House is approximately 45 minutes from Palermo. A small car is an absolute must not only to access local area sites/services but to navigate the road leading to the condo/beach club. The road is very steep with two switchbacks that require backing up to negotiate the turns. Don't forget your International Driver's License!
