Cuevas El Abanico - VTAR vivienda turística de alojamiento rural

Unique and peaceful location in the Sacromonte Caves area. It is a special experience to stay inside a historic cave. The bedding was clean and the temperature was cool and pleasant despite several 36 degree days outside. The kitchen facilities and shower were clean and comfortable, although the shower occasionally did not drain quickly enough so the water leaks all over the bathroom floor despite guest’s best efforts to not use much water and aim the water jet away from the shower door. A sloped lip at the shower door could help contain the leaking. The washing machine was clean and worked well and detergent is provided, although it does not advise how long the cycle will take so be aware that the washing may take 2 hours. There is a good Elemen supermarket in the Albaicin about 15 minutes walk away and the C34 bus stop is 5-10 min walk away. I appreciated that the host allowed early check-in when requested beforehand.

There is no phone signal inside the cave. You must go outside to the street to get phone reception. The wifi also did not work during the three days I stayed, despite reporting the issue 2 hours after arrival to the host. You have to prepare yourself for no reception and no wifi, so download offline maps and important info beforehand and bring your own entertainment! Electricity worked fine. There is no physical welcome by the host and access information is provided in a webpage sent a few days before, so be aware you must check this carefully ahead of arrival. The key code for access only activates at 3pm even if you have requested early bag drop, so if you expect to arrive earlier, you should carefully arrange bag drop or early check-in with the host beforehand, so you are not stuck in 36 degree heat trying to get phone reception to talk to the host. Do not bring a heavy suitcase unless you are quite fit, as you will have to carry it for 10 minutes uphill to the entrance, from the C34 bus stop. In general, be sure to be quite fit and wear appropriate shoes to stay in this area as there are lots of hills (of course!). The TV also did not work due to unstable wifi. It would have been great to have a tea towel to wipe your hands in the kitchen. All in all, it was a special experience as the area is so beautiful, however do prepare yourself for the lack of some modern comforts if you wish to stay.

J'ai aimé la vue sur l'Alhambra, la situation géographique, dormir dans une grotte.

La salle de bain venait d'être rénovée avant notre arrivée et nous n'avons pas pu l'utiliser car elle coulait!
