The Richardson Hotel

Kind of spooky and definitely haunting, The Richardson Hotel is a grand building and garden grounds. The reconstruction and design and refurbishment is awesome. There is so much available history and education about the 1880 facility and reconstruction onto a modern 4 star hotel. The staff is friendly and engaging. The gym room is worthless as it has a repugnant odor. Waliing and jogging through the vast garden is recommended, as there are enormous old trees lining the path. The fact that bottled drinking water is miserly given to the guests is unacceptable as I stayed at a 3 star Hilton in thearea and bottled water was free for the taking at reception. This hotel does not even stock bottled water to be purchased, which is inexcusable to me. The Lounge kitchen closes at 8:00 week days or 9:30 on the weekends so Door Dash is recommended after that. Breakfast before 10:00am is recommended on the first floor dining room. Weekend tours are recommended on the weekends, sign up immediately or the list closees. There is a hallway on the third floor that definitely says GO AWAY. It is much heavier and claustrophobic than anywhere else in the vast complex. Chills and goosebumbs covered my back and neck for no reason at all three times while I was there, yet no apparition appeared. Even the house cleaning staff had heard of numerous spirit experiences from the guests. I was not that lucky unfortunately even though I often requested that spirit show itself. The Hobson Wing (Sanitorium Women's residence) was warmer, lighter and welcoming:where as, the Olmsted (Men's residences) was noticeably slightly colder and heavier in energy. A very fascinating and enjoyable experience.

Pros- Very clean, historic and nice building. Cons- Booked a King bed room for my wife and I a month prior for our anniversary. Showed up to the hotel to be told they were overbooked and a King room was not available. Some communication would have been nice prior so we can find an alternative option. But no. My information was on file. The point of the king bed was for my wife and I to share a bed. Anyways we were offered a lesser room (instead of an upgrade) with two full size beds and told our stay would be discounted for the inconvenience when we checked out. She said she would put a note on our account. We reluctantly took it as it was getting later in the afternoon and we had dinner reservations and no time to get another room. The following day at checkout a different desk person said there was nothing they can do for us with a discount because we paid through a booking site (like 99% of normal people). We feel lied to and misled. I advise anyone booking at this hotel to not have any expectation of getting when you purchase. They will lie to you to appease you when you’re unhappy about the bait and switch and then they will lie to you when they say that can’t do anything to rectify the matter. There is always a solution when it comes to customer service and The Richardson Hotel failed miserably. Aside from lack of communication on my room availability, lying, baiting and switching, not having a room fridge and being stuck with two small beds for my anniversary the hotel room was clean and nice.
