    After the initial problem with locating our booking and having to stay in small room we were transferred to the booked studio which was large and well appointed. We were offered free breakfast as compensation which was great loads of variety. Rooms were clean however the reception bathrooms were less desirable. Location perfect and we overall had a great stay.

    I had one of the worst hotel experiences of my life at Plaza Regency Hotel, and I would strongly advise others to avoid this place. Before arrival, I specifically paid extra to upgrade my room. I was traveling alone, and I noticed that the single rooms were facing an internal lightwell with almost no natural light. Because of this, I intentionally booked and paid for a double/twin room, which was advertised as having either a street or garden view. However, upon check-in, I was given exactly the type of room I wanted to avoid: a dark room facing the internal lightwell. I immediately went back to reception. Interestingly, the couple who checked in before me had the exact same issue, but their room was changed almost immediately after they complained. In my case, the receptionist claimed that my booking had arrived as a “single room request,” which was simply not true. Even my booking confirmation clearly stated double/twin room. The receptionist told me there was nothing she could do and instructed me to contact Agoda myself. I submitted a complaint immediately, but I never even received a confirmation email from Agoda, so I had no proof the complaint went through. Meanwhile, the hotel staff refused to help me in any way. I ended up sitting in the lobby for nearly an hour while exhausted, hungry, and after traveling. Nobody tried to solve the situation. When I asked again, the receptionist called the manager, who repeated exactly the same thing with zero empathy or willingness to help. The manager also informed me that according to the hotel, they do not actually have a “double/twin room” category because double and twin rooms are supposedly booked separately. Honestly, I do not understand why this information was even shared with me as a guest, especially when my booking confirmation clearly stated double/twin room. This sounds like an internal system issue between the hotel and booking platforms, not something the guest should suffer because of. What made the situation even worse was that they claimed the hotel was fully booked, but at the same time said they could maybe change my room “if I paid more.” I explained several times that I had already paid extra for the upgraded room, but they completely ignored this. They also refused to tell me how much extra they expected me to pay. At arrival, they also charged me tourist tax again, even though I had already paid it through the booking platform. After calling Agoda directly, they told me it could take around two hours for a response. During this time, I was still waiting in the lobby with my luggage because the hotel refused to help. When I asked whether I could leave my bag somewhere safely, the receptionist told me the only option was to put it inside the room I did not want. Eventually, I had no choice but to accept the dark internal-facing room. A few hours later Agoda informed me that the hotel was willing to offer another room only if I paid extra. So clearly, they lied earlier when they claimed there were no available rooms. Then, about an hour later, Agoda informed me that the hotel ultimately refused to change my room at all — even if I paid more. I have traveled a lot, and I have honestly never experienced such rude and dismissive treatment from hotel staff before. The next day I asked for a pool towel because apparently the pool can only be used with their towels. The receptionist first said it costs €5. I agreed and handed over the money, only then to be told that actually €2 is a deposit and I would only get €3 back later. This should obviously have been explained in advance. That evening, after taking a shower, I used deodorant spray in the tiny bathroom. Seconds later the fire alarm briefly activated. Shortly after, reception called my room saying the smoke detector had gone off. I explained what happened.
