JOIVY Inviting Flat at the Heart of Edinburgh

The location was great, with easy access to Princes Street and the heart of the New Town, with easy walking access to the Old Town and the majority of Edinburgh. Lovely views of the Firth of Forth and Leith. The kitchen facilities are good, with a new and clean oven.

To access the apartment you need to ascend six flights of stairs, which might be a problem for some. The apartment is listed as two bedroom, but one bedroom is very small and has a heavy door that is cumbersome. Also, some of the carpets are a bit of a tripping hazard.

The location of this property is fantastic to be in the hustle and bustle of tourists Edinburgh. The beds were comfy and there was everything we needed for a two night stay.

If I hadn’t read the reviews I would not have been prepared for the stairs needed to access this property. I would worry for some as carrying luggage up those stairs is no mean feat. The property didn’t feel as clean as I would expect - almost as though it hasn’t been hoovered and there is some mould in the bathroom which I suppose is to be expected in very old properties but not really sure this is the ata card of property it claims to be. Finally - be aware that this apartment if part of a company called joivy. Now, whenever I have had problems the staff have been quick to respond and generally very helpful - however I have spoken to them a lot. Originally I booked another property with joivy but through booking.com. I was contacted a month before our stay to say that we couldn’t stay in that flat anymore as it wasn’t available anymore and I couldn’t get a refund but I could stay in either of two options of other flats. One was a 15 minute walk away from the original one and in a basement - the other was again 15 mins walk away (that was this one.) Then - to actually access the property you have to go through joivys whole “boarding pass” website and situation (resulting in unavoidable extra fees which I haven’t had returned as of yet) which is clunky and not very helpful. As my booking was changed by joivy and not booking.com my boarding pass then subsequently didn’t work and I was on the phone to joivy for 15 minutes while they decided what the code for the lock box might be. All in all not a terrible circumstance but I think for the money this sort of hassle shouldn’t be happening and worry that for someone not as used to technology and dealing with customer service then it would be really annoying. Also the radiator was broken in a bedroom and the dripping was pretty annoying.
