A beautiful and memorable temple stay in the heart of Koyasan. The property was exceptionally clean, and the traditional tatami room overlooking the garden created a peaceful and magical atmosphere. Dinner was served in the room, while breakfast was enjoyed with the other guests in a communal dining area. Both meals were beautifully presented and exactly what we expected from a shukubo experience. The temple grounds and the village itself were stunning and contributed greatly to the overall experience.

The toilet and shower facilities were shared, which is expected in many temple lodgings but may not suit everyone. The public bath was smaller and simpler than anticipated, essentially a large hot bath without a garden or scenic view. The check-in window is quite limited, and the evening schedule felt somewhat rushed. Guests are asked to decide on optional activities, such as the night tour and morning prayer service, shortly after arrival and before dinner. While these activities may be of interest, the process felt a bit more structured, rushed and commercial than I had expected from a temple stay. Despite this, the overall experience was unique and well worth experiencing

Beautiful temple, centrally located

The price is not aligned with the experience at all. Very basic services that you can get in any ryokan and the morning service is just a prayer with tourists, you have almost zero interactions with the monks.. so what’s the point in staying there? Bathrooms were okay cleaned
