Hotel Voilá Getsemaní By Huespedia

This is a beautiful, historic boutique hotel, perfectly located in Getsemaní, just a short walk from the park and the Walled City. Its location is ideal if you're joining organised tours, as many of them meet beneath the Clock Tower, which is only a few minutes away. From the moment you step inside, the hotel feels calm and welcoming. The reception area features a lovely, inviting plunge pool, while the minimalist décor, complemented by beautiful exposed brickwork throughout, creates a stylish yet authentic atmosphere. Like many properties throughout Colombia, you need to knock to gain entry, with reception staffed 24 hours a day. As a solo traveller, I really appreciated this extra layer of security. I treated myself to a suite for 6 gorgeous nights, which was enormous for one person, but I thoroughly enjoyed the extra space. The room had a large, incredibly comfortable bed, excellent Wi-Fi, and everything I needed for a relaxing stay. Despite being so close to the heart of the action, the hotel itself was peaceful and quiet. Breakfast was plentiful, freshly prepared, and a wonderful way to start the day. Step outside and you'll find yourself surrounded by countless restaurants, cafés, bars and shops, you really are in the heart of one of Cartagena's most vibrant neighbourhoods. My favourite restaurant of the entire trip was Sierpe Cocina Caribe, just a short walk away. The food was exceptional, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to experience modern Caribbean cuisine at its very best. The staff were consistently warm, friendly and professional. A special thank you goes to the gentleman on reception who came to my rescue at 7 a.m. when my taxi driver became lost. Sadly, I didn't get his name, but he went above and beyond to help, and I was extremely grateful.

Although I appreciated the security, I felt a bit bad having to bother the staff all the time as I often came and went many times during the day. However at the same time, although I saw nothing untoward, I know what some people go to Colombia for, you see it around the walled city at the night and if that's your thing, fine, I just don't want it brought back to a hotel where I am staying. The security at the hotel is to keep undesirables away so in that regard I cannot grumble.

Fabulous hotel with wonderful staff. Lovely plunge pool to cool off in after a day out. Good breakfast. Wifi works well. beds comfortable. Great location

The toilet in the bedroom had no ceiling so was open to the room. Nowhere to step out of the shower if sharing the room with a friend - no privacy for shower/toilet. Shared toilet downstairs was good
