Hesthaug Gard

The cabin is beautifully designed with all required amenities including a verandah sitout, a well equipped kitchen and TV (we were able to connect the laptop using a HDMI cable that we had carried). The view from the cabin is great and if you just walk a few meters to the office, you get excellent views of the fjord. The host was kind enough to let us check in late around 10:30 pm and lend us some coffee. He also gave a quick history of the generational property that has been passed down over 4 centuries. If you're driving from the west/north (e.g., Alesund), you have to take a ferry to cross over to Eidsdal so it would be good to check the ferry timetable and plan your drive accordingly. The host can include this as part of the intructions.

Staying in Hesthaug Gard is one of highlights of our family trip in Norway. We were happily impressed with beautiful views of mountains, fjord, wild flowers, rainbow around this property when we checked in. The host is very friendly and made our stay easy and comfortable. The family suite we stayed is lovely and comfortable, with great view. I would love to come back and stay longer:)

The location was great, suitable for hikes near mountain tops, and for insights into farm life in the Norwegian mountains. The hut we rented was generally well equipped. The owner was kind.

The promised WiFi was not there. We rented the top hut of the enterprise, and to get a usable WiFi signal, we had to get outside and lean over a rock in front of the house. We solved our problem by putting a $25 travel router on the rock to act as a repeater. If we could do it, the owner could do it by placing connecting WiFi units in the upper portions of the buildings that are in view of each other. On another issue, it was chilly inside during the night, which would have been fine if I could wrap myself in the bed comforter, but the comforter was too narrow for me, and I am near the bottom of the adult size distribution.

The location is stunning, with beautiful views of the fjords and mountains, near and distant small farms, etc. The cabin was traditional, very comfortable and clean. The host was kind and interesting and suggested several walking trails, which I took and loved. There are many trails nearby, from easy to hard, which can take you down to the fjord level or up to mountaintops. I'll be back with my family...
