Hakkai Konohanakan

If you want to experience the 'real' Japan, this is it. The accommodation and food reflect the traditional (but modernised) Japanese way of life. The building was quite new and beautifully constructed with quality finishes. Both breakfast and dinner were an experience. There were many uniquely Japanese dishes in beautiful crockery. As I lived in Japan for many years, I was delighted to eat delicious food that is not found in restaurants. The first night's dinner was better than the 2 Michelin star restaurant we went to recently. The sashimi was surprisingly good. They provided free beer and chuhai that got replenished daily and gave us a 'midnight snack'. The view of Mt Fuji was excellent and the private onsen was fabulous. You could open the big windows and experience an 'outside bath' with the view of Fuji san. The staff were extremely polite and attentive.

The second night's dinner featured Sukiyaki which is ubiquitous in Japanese restaurants everywhere and is easy to make. On the same night, the sashimi was covered with balsamic vinegar which was strange. That meal was very disappointing. The third breakfast featured a western breakfast. We did not come to Japan to eat omelette, sausages and ketchup. Lastly, although Mt Fuji can be clearly seen, the view of the surrounding area is quite unattractive.

We had a lot of space and on a clear day, you can see Mount Fuji. The staff, service and food was amazing.

It was cloudy the whole time we were there, but that’s not their fault.

Great food and service, room was spacious and tastefully fitted. Food was excellent even though I had a few allergies that made it difficult to accommodate me. They really made an effort. The private onsen was to die for after a long trip.

No bar or communal area to connect to others. But I don't think this is the kind of place to do so anyway. Look elsewhere if you are the kind of person that needs to speak to strangers lol

Too far .. not easily accessible.. hardly 16 hours.. even the fujisan was far from there.. taxi charges also a lot
