Bright duplex loft next to the city center by REMS

The apartment is spacious and very well equiped. There kitchen had many and various utensils. There were towels, a water jug and even pods for the washing machine. The living area had a comfortable sofa and a nice TV. The location is also very convenient - close to both the central train station and the city center. Lastly, the staff was very friendly and helpful: on our first day, we arrived around 10 pm and the locking mechanism of the entrance door was not working, so we couldn't check in the apartment. However, the staff came to try to fix the issue, letting us stay into another of their apartments for the night and paying for our taxi.

The apartment wasn't very well cleaned - it was dusty and there were some chips leftovers on the ground. There are two bathrooms but both of them have sliding doors that don't close well, so there is no sound insulation when you're using the toilet. The shower also has a window towards the bedroom, so you're visible while showering. Otherwise, we enjoyed our stay!

Het is vervelend dat je eerst het centrum in moet om de sleutel op te halen met je koffers en daarna pas naar het appartement kan. Beter zal wezen dat je de sleutel uit een kluisje kan halen en/of gebracht kan worden.

The heating unit is on the ceiling, so as heat rises the bottom of the flat remains a lot colder.

It was a really lovely and distinctive space in a very quiet area of town (and yet very handy indeed for the station and the train to the airport); we loved the quirky interior and it was thoughtfully furnished with pretty much everything we needed during our stay. It was really useful having a dishwasher (and particularly useful having a few dishwasher tablets provided) and while we didn’t actually use the washing machine, the fact there was one earned a big tick from us. We were there with our 9-y-o daughter and it was great that she had her own sleeping area (but see below!) rather than, as is often the case, having to use the sofa as a bed and so effectively give up the lounge area; she also loved the office space, and set up some of her toys in there, which was really nice too as it meant we could all be downstairs and her dad and I could chat for example, and she could play, without any of us disturbing the other…

Sadly, there were a couple of things that didn’t quite work for us. The first of these was the space: while gorgeous, it’s pretty much completely open plan, and once our daughter was in bed, we couldn’t really watch tv or listen to music — or even talk at normal volume — without disturbing her. If we’d been there without her, it would have been much easier! Second, the upstairs windows have blinds and shutters that were really effective at blocking out the light at night. However, the (big!) downstairs window (which is opaque so people outside can’t see in) had no blind and, again, because the apartment is so open plan, it meant it was quite light at night — especially as there’s a streetlight just outside. It might not bother everyone but I certainly found it hard to sleep (the first night particularly) as a result. Also, I know it’s personal preference, but I found the mattress and pillows really hard — though again, some people might not mind. Finally, although it’s a very quiet neighbourhood, and the windows are double glazed, whenever a car went past, for example, you could really hear it inside the apartment. These aren’t necessarily insurmountable issues and wouldn’t automatically stop us from coming back — but I think if we were coming again with our daughter, we’d probably — sadly — look elsewhere. It’s a shame because it is such a lovely space!
