Really cool hotel concept, enjoyed staying on a ship, loved the decor and vibe. The gallery underneath is really cool too.
The room i got was a literal broom cupboard. I booked a quadruple room and got a triple room. Heating did not work, was freezing and couldnt dry my wet clothes. When we asked staff for help with multiple issues they ignored our request. Low level of service. No house keeping.

In all honestly, if or when I go back to Goteborg, I will be staying at the Barken again.
It was warm enough, but there was a fan blowing freezing air straight towards. After getting back from outside, where there -5degrees, that doesn’t help.

The ship as hotel its a brilliant I really loved staying over there, I will for sure be back lonely that that place is near opera and mostly near everything.
I didn't quite enjoyed the cracky bed and the paper walls into hallway in general the rooms need be refurbished as that place is historicall.

This place has the opportunity to be amazing. And it is. Goodness, what a place to stay. History and location cannot be beaten.
Ruthless automation takes another victim. Checking in via a ring cam and a half working phone is painfully annoying. There are no facilities/ bars as it says and you cannot explore the deck due to no staff.
It is unique and cool. Can’t knock it if you don’t mind friction points.

It was a nice experience sleeping in a boat, but that's about it.
The breakfast didn't have many options, and for the price per night, it was a bit suspect not to have at least hand soap in the bathroom, not to mention no shower gel or shampoo.

I haven't reach the breakfast as I was sleeping late...
I loved the atmosphere and surroundings of the property. I woke up feeling refreshed and inspired, and I slept very well. Overall, it was a very relaxing two-night stay.
However, I had several issues during check-in and with room access. I had to change my key card three to four times. When I first entered my assigned room, it was not clean or ready—the bed had not been changed, and it felt as if someone might still have been occupying the room. This happened after I had already returned to reception once because the key card was not working and I could not open the door.
There was no staff present at the reception desk, and I had to wait quite a long time on the phone to reach someone. When I was moved to another room, the key card did not work again, so the same process of calling and waiting was repeated.
The next day, even though I had already extended my stay for another night, a staff member attempted to open my door while I was still in bed sleeping, likely to clean the room. Fortunately, I had placed a chair behind the door.
Despite these issues, the overall stay was pleasant and good value for the money.
One thing worth noting is that there was no staff to welcome guests upon arrival, and there was no clear explanation in the booking information about the self check-in process or what to expect when arriving.

Everything about it: the concept, the ambiance and the room. I just love the quietness of the room so I did write a lot. I’m an author so I love the setting having my room floating on the sea.

When key cards are not working and have to be put on in a card reader to reactivate again and again. I went literally 6 times to open two different rooms… First room was not ready, when I finally managed to open the door with the key, then the second room: key not working twice. The door in the room should have key chain, I put chair in front of the door so no one can just walk in or open it while I’m sleeping: the morning, housekeeping just almost burst in without knocking. No information that I extend my stay. All in all, everything is good and what a pleasure to stay.

The “Viking Ship hotel” was a great experience and learning the ship’s history made it even more enjoyable. The breakfast was fantastic, very extensive selection of hot and cold food.
The location was excellent. A relatively short walk from the central station and you could walk to most of the cities attractions.
There was no floor mat or hand towels in the bathroom and the two bath towels provided were old.
The TV was a bit of a challenge to operate and there were no English channels that we could find (this is not a real problem)

An amazing experience. It may not have the best confort, but sleeping inside that ship gave a unique feeling.

I like the idea of unconventional accommodations. It is not the first time I sleep on a boat turned into a hotel so when I found this option I did not hesitate. The boat is located in the Goteborg marina, easily accessible and close to the station (10 min walk) and to public transportation and services.
My room did not have an en-suite bathroom but I think this was my mistake, I did not check carefully when I booked. Showers and toilets where on the floor, and clear, so that was not a major issue at all.

The location is great, we loved being near the water but also right in the city centre
It is such a shame that you can't access the deckare or any outside parts of the ship. The lack of a bar or restaurant also means there's nowhere to hang out in case of bad weather etc.
There's nowhere safe to leave luggage either.

Great location
One of the rooms (102) we booked felt quite like a prison, no windowns, all white, mold on the ceiling.

The boat concept is fun and original, and it’s not too expensive! Nice to try for a one time experience
The hotel wasn’t so clean, breakfast wasn’t great, and there was a whole group, if not multiple, spread in multiple rooms, shouting and blasting music in the next room and in the corridor until 3/4am. Could barely sleep!

Unique hotel
No staff at the hotel, all contact including check-in is only via telephone. Room was missing towel, phoned ‘help desk’ and was told nothing could be done until next day; told to “try some cupboards, to see if I could find some yourself”. Dirty public areas. Old furnishings, worn carpet. Public bars, lounge, outside ‘deck’ were all closed to access. Very basic breakfast, not worth the extra paid.

The room was lovely and spacious and the bed was very comfortable. It was quite easy to check in - the instructions they sent were easy to follow.
The breakfast was lacking a bit, even for a continental breakfast and the shower in my room needs fixing a bit.

Gorgeous old ship, decently clean cabins, decent to average breakfast buffet. Check in was quick. Close to Liseberg.
Cabins smelled stale, windows wouldn't open, found a used tobacco pouch next to my pillow on the windowsill. Check in was handled by someone on a phone that doesn't speak any western language. Our two cabins were far apart. Albeit designated space for a fridge, there was none. Small things like soap holder, shower head holder and waste bucket was broken, but partially functional. Expensive parking at P-arken next ship down. No bar, cafe or restaurant on board. Only one place on the pier nearby. Street works makes it impossible to navigate by car using GPS.

I liked staying on the boat but one problem was the lack of staff when I arrived

This is an eccentric and unusual hotel in a very good location and in a safe and pleasant part of town.
It’s a little bit tired and tatty inside and the common areas are surreal liminal spaces - the self check in was a bit confusing and required that I plug in a loose usb cable.

The only thing I liked about this hotel is the unique experience of staying on an 80-year-old ship – it’s definitely something different and special.
Unfortunately, that’s where the positives end
The hotel is completely unstaffed. The main entrance is always open (possibly because the key cards don't work or people simply leaving them open), and on several occasions, we saw random individuals, including possibly homeless people, sleeping in the lounge area ... a serious safety concern.
Checkin was chaotic. Key cards with full names & room numbers were left out at reception, and someone had already checked in under our name. We spent over 40 frustrating minutes on the phone trying to sort it out. When we finally got into room 224, it was dirty, the toilet hadn’t been flushed, there was hair in the sink, and the overall cleanliness was poor.
The room itself was tiny, poorly lit, freezing cold, and the beds were both small and extremely uncomfortable. We tried calling for help, but the person we spoke to, Adam, told us there was nothing they could do because no staff were available not even to provide extra blankets.
Breakfast was very basic, and to make things worse, there are no nearby restaurants or cafes you need to walk at least 20 minutes to reach the town center.

It was a very unique and comfortable atmosphere on this old ship, located very well in the city center. The breakfast was also quite good and staff was friendly and helpful altough they had a stressful weekend due to big concerts in the city.
The time for baggage storage is limited on weekends due to a low presence of staff.

What was supposed to be a pleasant experience (hotel on a real ship) turned into a disaster. I had to sleep in the lobby on the first night because checking in was impossible, even during working hours. They promised me a refund which never came through. Guests waiting to check-in or fixing their demagnetized room keys were lining up all the time to call the dedicated number, since there’s no in-person staff. Room service was never provided in 3 days. Check out the other reviews if you don’t believe me and stay away from this place.

Good little breakfast included.
Tea and coffee facilities in the main lobby
The check in process was a little odd. I arrived early afternoon, You get buzzed in and then have to use a phone to call reception for them to cut your access keys. I didn't see one staff member during my stay so felt a little disconnected.

Enjoyed the setting and the quiet. Breakfast satisfactory. Short distance to railway station and opera. The two stadf members we met were pleasant and helpful.
Being old I found electronic check-in system complicated and didn't even know, until half an hour after my arrival, what I had to do until a passing cleaner told me. Also, there was no reading light by the bed.

Good breakfast and the hotel staff provided me with some vegan meat alternatives which I really appreciated. The room and bed were spacious and very comfortable.
Check in was straightforward however the lack of reception staff was a little strange.
