About this house rental
Waking up to lake sounds from the private screened in porch, swimming off the dock, and roasting s'mores in the firepit are our favorite pastimes at A Rough Life lake house.
As you enter, you will walk in to a recently remodeled kitchen and table for 4 that can extend to 6. The living room has a sleeper sofa, loveseat, and two recliners that can gaze through the sliding glass door at the lakefront property with yard that gently slopes to the lake. Down the hallway, you'll discover a full bathroom with laundry closet, bedroom on the left with a queen bed and doors leading to the screened in porch, and a second bedroom with full over full bunk beds. The two level deck overlooking the yard boasts ample seating for enjoying the lake view. A path towards the right of the property leads to the shared dock, where we spend most of our time swimming or fishing. Boat not included with rental, but boat rentals are available nearby at Nick's Boat Dock.
A Rough Life is conveniently located in the Tanglewood neighborhood. The road to the house is a gravel one-lane road. Cannons Point and Sandy Beach are nearby neighborhoods.
There is no trash service, so you must take trash with you when you leave.
There is one security camera over the side door entry that faces the gravel driveway and one on the deck facing the yard. Please reach out for any concerns as those can be put on do not disturb if requested.
It is a lake house on a wooded lot, so complete elimination of all pests is impossible, but we use several methods to try to keep them out.

Please note: in the upcoming years, the Army Corps of Engineers will be adjusting water levels until long-term dam repairs can be completed, including targeting a summer pool water level of 490 feet, which is 5 feet below normal summer pool. Our dock has been moved out the allowed distance, so it is deep enough that we can still swim off the dock. You can also swim straight out from the house on our "beach." Just be careful for stick ups with the new levels. Pictures have been updated to reflect water levels near that. When the water level is above summer pool, the walkway to the dock may be inaccessible. For updates, check USACE website. Check here for updated water levels. Cannon's Point is the closest boat ramp but is private. The dock for this lakehouse is private per Army CoE regulations and therefore may not be available for guest boat docking.

We had a great time! We caught a bunch of largemouth bass and loved sitting by the fire at night. The hammock was a great touch. The house was fully stocked and the owners were very helpful throughout the process. The lake was flooded during our visit so the dock was not accessible and there was no beach, but I'm sure it would have been different in better weather! The screened in porch was great for playing games and taking a break from the sun while still feeling like we were outside. Thanks for a relaxing vacation!

We visited this property as a get away for our 1st anniversary. The pictures and description were appealing and we intended to visit again with our boys if we liked the property. However, I don't think we will return. : (
The inside of the house was cute, and very clean, but smelled slightly of cat urine. There was no "pet evidence" anywhere, but the smell was annoying, so we ran the fans, cracked windows and burned candles nearly the whole time. The outdoor decks were covered in leaves, and dirt, and there was actually stuff growing in them, so they hadn't been cleaned in a LONG time! I had to sweep them off myself, except the bottom deck, where the boards are water logged, rotten and breaking where the rug is, so I didn't finish sweeping it, we just didn't go on it. There was trash on the bottom deck also and the swing was in pieces. The table on the screened in porch was covered in dirt and bugs, so I had to clean it before we could sit out there. We were still determined to have a good time, and were looking forward to kayaking, but there was only one actual hard bottomed kayak. The rest were inflatables, and had been left blown up/partially deflated, so my husband didn't want to risk getting out on the water in them. The trip wasn't a total bust, but this property could use a little TLC and a bit more attention prior to guest arrival. We were disappointed to spend that much money AND have to pay for the "optional insurance" to book, for the experience we had.
