Parking wasn’t easy

Our family had a wonderful stay at Casa de Campo do Arco de São Jorge, and we couldn't have asked for a more perfect retreat. The cottage was exceptionally comfortable and well-equipped; it truly felt like a home away from home, and we never found ourselves lacking anything during our stay. The weather in February was cool, so we made full use of the cozy fireplace, which not only kept us warm but also added a lovely atmosphere to the house. It was a great way to unwind after a day of exploring. The surroundings were absolutely stunning—lush, vibrant greenery stretched out in every direction, and the clouds, hovering at the top of the mountain behind the house, created a dramatic and picturesque view. It felt like we were tucked away in a serene, peaceful haven. We were pleased to find that the cottage was well-maintained, and halfway through our stay, it was cleaned and the bed linens and towels were replaced, ensuring everything remained fresh and comfortable. The location was ideal, with a local bar and restaurant less than 100 meters from the house, providing convenient dining options. Additionally, the supermarket in Santana was just a 10-minute drive away, making it easy to stock up on supplies. The cottage was also a fantastic base for exploring the island, with its location providing easy access to a variety of attractions and natural beauty spots. Overall, Casa de Campo do Arco de São Jorge was an excellent choice for our family getaway, offering both comfort and a perfect starting point for island exploration.

Man wohnt mitten im „Jungle“. Auf das etwas abenteuerliche Haus muss man sich einlassen und im Klaren sein das es von Natur und dessen Bewohner (kleine Krabbeltiere sowie Katzen) umgeben ist. Wir haben uns recht zügig eingelebt nach dem die beiden Kamine sowie Heizkörper eingeheizt waren und die Luftentfeuchter liefen. Aufgrund der hohen Luftfeuchtigkeit und Steinfundaments ist es recht feucht. Die Zimmer sind alle sauber. Und die Küche hat alles was man braucht. Achtung es darf nur nicht gleichzeitig alles laufen sonst gibt es schnell Kurzschluss. Der Stromkasten ist unten hinter dem Fernseher. Für ältere Menschen oder Menschen mit Gehbehinderung ist dieses Haus definitiv nichts. Aber für abenteuerlustige, Naturfreunde ja. Es gibt im oberen Bereich des Hauses 2 Schlafzimmer, Küche und Badezimmer mit Dusche und im unteren Bereich 1 Schlafzimmer (2 einzeln Betten) plus Wohnzimmer und Badezimmer. Der untere Bereich ist übrigens schneller warm.

1) Auf dem eigentlich großen Parkplatz ist ein abgestelltes Schrott Auto, was das parken recht abenteuerlich gestaltet hat. Am besten wendet man vor dem Parken beim Restaurant dann ist das Parken wesentlich einfacher als wenn man von der Stadt kommt. 3) unbedingt reichlich Anzünder für den Kamin besorgen, denn ohne das bekommt man das feuchte Feuerholz so gut wie kaum an bzw. nur mit große Mühe 4) Die Holztreppe ist wirklich sehr steil und schmal hier ist Vorsicht geboten gerade für ältere Menschen 5) Natürlich muss man mit Krabbeltieren in einem Steinhaus mitten im „Jungle“ Natur rechnen, aber das muss man auch in einer Wohnung. Also das war weiter nicht schlimm. WICHTIGSTE INFO: Stromkasten hinter dem Fernseher unten im Wohnzimmer! Das ist eine wichtige Info weil die Sicherung (wenn viel angesteckt ist) öfter mal ausgefallen ist. Diese Info ist das wichtigste wie ich finde. Wenn ihr kocht unbedingt die Heizkörper und die Entlüfter vorher aus der Steckdose ziehen. Alles zusammen gibt Kurzschluss.

Location and an amazing view.

I wish I could tell this was lovely, rustic cottage with an amazing ocean and mountains view. But unfortunately I would lie. Rustic cottage with the view is right, however it was really far away from lovely. I can understand a lot of insects, cockroaches and strange noises coming in from the ?roof? (I believe they were coming from there), because house is like in the heart of jungle. But the cottage was just dirty, mouldy and with really high humidity. We couldn’t even set up the fire in the fireplace, because the wood was very wet. Our laundry never got dried up. It wasn’t that cold in the night, but it was very unpleasant with the stink of the mould, because one of the electric radiators did not work. We informed the landlord about the issues with setting up the fire, but we got reply that he cannot do anything about it. Cottage has a barbecue place in the terrace, which, spoiler alert, could not be set up because of the wet wood. Luckily our stay in Madeira was fantastic despite this sad and uncomfortable accommodation. I cannot recommend this house. However it has a huge potential and hopefully opinions will be taken under further consideration.
