The staff were amazing and made us feel so welcome. This was actually the cheapest hotel we stayed at in Japan, but it ended up being our family’s favorite. The room was a bit small and felt slightly stuffy since the windows couldn’t be opened, but the bathroom was so comfortable it felt like home. We also loved all the little touches like free ice, water, bath salts, hair ties, and other amenities. The location was great too—I’m someone who hates walking, but getting around from here was easy and there were lots of shops and restaurants nearby. We’d definitely stay here again. ❤️

Stayed at the standard twin room and I would not recommend for several reasons: - the standard twin room is located directly beside a yakitori restaurant. From late afternoon onwards till midnight, the smell of grilled meats and smoke would perforate our room and it gets a little unbearable and difficult to breathe. We requested to switch to a different room but we ended up getting the a higher-floor room at the exact same spot. The staff told us to use the air purifier provided in the room instead. - the window panes are made out of thin paper with no curtains and does not block out sunlight. The sun rises around 4-5am in the morning and we’d be woken up. The staff tried to resolve this by taping black paper over the windows to block out most of the light, but this leaves the room with little natural light in the day. - for some strange reasons, the lights near the door located beside the toilet automatically lights up and there are no switches to turn it off. If anyone gets up and uses the toilet, it triggers the lights and wakes the other person up. For this reason we slept poorly. - to add insult to injury, the rooms were not exactly soundproof. You can hear other guests talking from the hallway. Thought imo this is the least of the issues compared to the ones above. - toilets are small. Oddly, even smaller than the ones in Tokyo. Albeit, the rooms were spacious with a coffee table and two chairs on top of two beds. That aside, if you’re able to secure other rooms which I presume had better reviews, the location was fantastic. Less than 10 min walk from Kyoto Station and there’s a wide range of convenient stores and restaurants nearby. I also appreciated all the free amenity kits from bath sponges to foot patches which were a godsend! Overall, all the staff were very friendly and made our stay more pleasant. Unfortunately due to the above negative experiences with the room, I’d stay elsewhere when I’m back in Kyoto in the future.
