Philema House

Πολύ όμορφο σπίτι, στα γραφικά στενά της Σκοπέλου!! Η θέση του είναι ιδανική, γιατί, εκτός του ότι δεν είναι πολύ ψηλά, ώστε να πρέπει να κουβαλάς τα πράγματά σου με τα χέρια για πολλή ώρα, κατεβαίνεις με τα πόδια για την βραδινή βόλτα, χωρίς να χρειάζεται ούτε αμάξι, ούτε τίποτα. Το μόνο άγχος μας, πριν φτάσουμε, ήταν πού θα παρκάραμε, γιατί μπροστά είναι το λιμάνι. Έχει όμως πάντα θέση για να παρκάρεις στην προβλήτα. Ήταν ιδανικά!!!

Philema house has excellent outside space with a spacious roof terrace overlooking part of the harbour and out to sea. It is well located for the shops and restaurants, being only 3 houses back from the harbour. It is in the old part of the town and the immediate area around it is made up of traditional pretty streets winding their way up the hillside between the houses. The air conditioning worked very well and came in useful, as did the washing machine and there was a drying rack on the roof terrace. There is a small ‘beach’ just around the corner over the harbour wall via some steps but swimming shoes are advised as its a stone beach, the stones at the waters edge can be a bit slippery and there are some sea urchins about so be careful. Its great for swimming once you are in and the water was warm. If you do some snorkelling there are lots of little fish in the shallower parts and a bit further out are some bigger ones. There was live music on the harbour on the Friday and Saturday evenings. We hired a car for one day and I thought it was good value at 70 euros including full insurance. There is free parking on the harbour at the end where the house is as long as you don't park in the white boxes as they are for permit holders only.

While there is seating on the roof terrace there isn’t enough to seat the maximum occupancy of the house, maybe some sun loungers would be a good addition as there is currently only one (and three chairs). Maybe a few more serving bowls and some additional saucepans would be useful in the kitchen even though we did eat out quite a bit. The house is at the other end of the town from the supermarket so maybe take a wheeled suitcase with you or some rucksacks and remember its a short climb back up to the property. These are very minor points though.

The ground floor bedroom / apartment was smelly, the decoration was dull and dated and we had on going problems with the toilet flush. When we arrived it was continuously running, it was fixed the following day but was the repair did not last and we had water problems throughout our visit.
