About this cottage rental
Ladywood Lodge is in a stunning position, with woodland and mountain views all around. It is very private, with easy parking on site. The Lodge is located near the main house and shares a pathway which leads to its own (separate) front door. The Lodge shares 2 acres of garden with the main house, so we ask that dogs be well-behaved when in the garden. The accommodation consists of a large studio room with newly renovated separate kitchen and ensuite shower room. Furniture is period in style, reflecting that the property dates from early 1900's. There is a small patio with table and chairs outside. Ladywood is accessed via a quiet country road so it is extremely peaceful, with no road noise. Walks from the cottage include up White Moss Common, to Rydal Caves and down to Grasmere lake and Dove Cottage. There are lovely views of Nab Scar and Silver Howe.

Very tucked away and peaceful. Had everything I needed. Some good walks right from the door.

Not the fault of the property owner, but terrible wet weather meant I cut short my stay after three nights.

The perfect location, away from the crowds and just a 10 minute walk into Grasmere. Walks directly from the property so we had several days without moving the car. We had the most amazing weather which made the week a great experience. If the weather had been dull, then the property would have been dark as it is surrounded by mature trees and a lovely wild garden.

Very quiet and private with no noise pollution. Over grown garden was amazing. Feels like your in the middle of the woods. About 12 to 15 mins walk to Grasmere. And 5 mins walk to lake
If your like walking there is a great walk via the caves to Amblside town.
Would definitely book here again.

Perfect place to escape to
Great location, good walking distance to Grasmere , but still very secluded in it’s little woodland. We had the pleasure of crisp blue skies for our stay which was perfect for walking, although a little chilly in the cottage. Easily rectified though by snuggling up by the fire 🔥 Thanks to the hosts as well for such a warm welcome

Perfect Solitude
Perfect Solitude
Booked this stay a while ago for My wife and I, (and the dog).
It didn't disappoint :-)
Location was perfect, hidden in the dense woodland but yet only a short distance from civilisation (Grasmere).
A mixture of modern (Kitchen/Bathroom) and "oldy worldy" quaint in the open plan bed/sitting/dining room.
Loved every minute of it - despite the weather.
Will seriously consider coming back again.

The Beautiful Lakes
The Beautiful Lakes
Overall we had a reasonable stay. The location was perfect. The cottage, not so. we had a couple of problems with the water and warning!!!! TAKE a TORCH T night you can't see you hands in front of you!!
We love the Lake District so we weren't disappointed in the area at all. We discovered a beautiful walk and run for the dog, just across the road. It's up for sale and if I had the money...……..
Not for us but it is fairly unique.
Thank you Ruth for your help and knowledge.

The Perfect Retreat
The Perfect Retreat
What a perfect place - despite the weather I had a wonderful week. The Lodge has been well planned and had everything I needed -without undermining its Edwardian origins. A perfect retreat providing peace and tranquility. Lots of great walks and the it was lovely to return to The Lodge and its 'hideaway' setting. I look forward to returning. I was made to feel so welcome.

A hidden gem
A perfect hideaway. Only just off the main road but may as well be in the middle of nowhere, it's that quiet. Perfect for exploring the walks local to Grasmere - we didn't move the car for three days. The cottage is all your need. Ruth, our host, is great and always around if needed for anything.

Lovely and peaceful !
Lovely and peaceful !
Very nice unusual period property with everything you need. Bathroom new and good shower. Kitchen is a bit small for space for preparing food. Garden outside very lush, it is enclosed but shared with the big house next door to the property. If you have dogs they will be roaming in a garden shared by owner and visitors of owners. Owner is very nice lady.

Relaxing few days in a beautiful location
Relaxing few days in a beautiful location
The lodge is in a wonderfully secluded location just outside grasmere, surrounded by an enclosed woodland garden. The property itself is a bit tired and could definitely do with a deeper clean and a bit of tlc- particularly the bathroom and kitchen which need a total revamp! having said that, it does grow on you after a day or two, was warm and cosy and certainly peaceful. My elderly mum found the steps down into the kitchen a bit difficult at times - a handrail would be useful (there is one down to the bathroom ). we did, however have a lovely enjoyable few days, as did my young spaniel, and would probably book again as it was a good base, the garden was just ‘us’ and the communication with host was good - Ruth even provided me with a zbed so that I didn’t have to bed share with mum! Thank you!

Lovely secluded location. If you like mod cons this isn’t for you but if you like something with history it is great. The room was very spacious, location was perfect and sitting outside the back door was wonderful - it felt like being in the forest!

Beautiful rural retreat
Beautiful rural retreat
Two of us stayed for four nights with our three large dogs and it was wonderful. It is situated in a wooded area well away from roads and so is very quiet. The accommodation is simple but met all of our needs for our stay. It is an excellent base for days out walking in the mountains as it is situated close to many fine walks. The accommodation is simple, clean and includes everything needed. It's not 5 star luxury but if you want a lovely quiet cottage with a kitchen, hot shower and comfortable place to sleep after a day on the fells, this is perfect.

Very comfortable and warm. Good location, walks straight from the door, the dog loved it too. Had a week away from tv and newspapers, watching dvds, reading books and watching the birds. Ruth was very helpful.

On arrival, the first impression was "FILTH" The main room was a good sized room, but the carpet was dirty, there were pieces of dog biscuit all over the floor, so it had not been vacuumed. The wooden floor was wet and when it dried it was sticky, so no idea what was on the floor. the worst was the kitchen, the cutlery and crockery had to be scrubbed before we could use them. The drain tray for washing up was put away in a corner as it could not be used it was so dirty. The cooker and oven were the same and we ended up having carry outs all week. The bathroom was the least dirty of the lot, but the glass for toothbrushes etc was a joke, but not funny. I did take pictures to back up this review. My advice would be AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE.

We really enjoyed our week's stay at Ladywood Lodge Cottage. The Cottage is located in a beautiful part of the Lake District, and is cosy, quiet and comfortable.
Grasmere is 20 minutes walk away with local shops and a local country Pub, which served great food and real Ale. Coniston is close by car and you really are located in the heart of the Countryside. Would stay there again.

Second visit to Ladywood Lodge. Same experience as before; isolation and yet Grasmere close enough to walk to. Lovely woodland garden setting and the lodge with its charm and character. Will be booking again this year.

Although advertised there have been no 'welcome packs' for over 12 months according to the visitors book. Cottage needs a good clean. Great that they allow dogs but because we are dog lovers does not mean that we compromise on cleanliness. So many people have written in the visitors book that the cottage is in need of a good clean but nothing seems to have been done about it, perhaps because the owners are not on site to check up. Had to spend the first part of the holiday cleaning the utensils
that we needed to use, couldn't even have a brew before cleaning the grease off the kettle. Duvet cover ripped. Headboard and bedside units covered in dust and cobwebs. Could really be made nice it's in a great location. I have taken photographs of the dirty conditions if you are
interested. We made the most of our time there but were generally disappointed.

The lodge had everything for me. Enough space, character, woodland setting, secluded yet close enough to Grasmere for somewhere to go. My plan was to go out during the day, so didn't need all the frills of a six star hotel. Everything worked, kitchen, bathroom, wifi, heating. The place was always warm and felt weatherproof during some heavy rain showers.
The best recommendation I can give is that I'll be booking again. If you want a well equipped peaceful bolthole tucked out of the way, but not too far from a village, this lodge is ideal.
3.0 / 10.0
The cottage was ideally situated for walks and country activities, but lacked what I would regard as basic amenities.
Heating was inadequate throughout, lighting in the kitchen and lounge was not fully working, kitchen (entrance lobby really), was very small, poorly equipped (no toaster, no grill pan or frying pan), minimal crockery, cutlery and food prep equipment. Don't even think about cooking anything apart from breakfast.
The small bathroom (down two steps form the lounge) had a quirky electric shower arrangement and the towel rail cable had electrical tape around it. The small mirror was high on the wall, so if you are not tall enough you couldn't use it. No hooks for dressing gown.
Lounge was spacious with great views to the outside, but was cold. The fire surround was loose and dangerous. (fell forward twice during our stay!) TV 'stand' seemed like an afterthought, wi-fi was good but only in the window area.
The property is generally tired, poorly maintained and needs some updating. It could be really excellent with some attention to detail.
A torch and means to light the fire would be helpful.
It was not properly prepared before our arrival and the cleaner was sitting outside in her car, with the engine running, as we were packing our car to leave!

Superb location and owner good with communication , however more info re directions would have been v helpful as directions appalling. Fireplace lovely but felt cottage could do with a good deep clean

There are a lot of good things to say about this property though I can understand why there are some quite negative reviews and comments in the visitors book. The first thing to say is if you book from this website then ignore the fact that you will be greeted with a welcome pack - you won't. The owners have not offered this pack for over a year. We relied on this and immediately had to go out to buy essentials. We then found a lack of wood for the fire and had to go out again. Once lit, the fire is lovely but be warned, the wood burns quite quickly. A bag of logs from the coop in Grassmere only lasted 1 evening.
There is a tiny kitchen quite well equipped and a shower room and everything else is in one large room. We thought it a little misleading that it is described as having 1 bedroom. A bedroom suggests a room to sleep in away from everything else. Having said that it was fine for the long weekend. Wouldn't want to be there for a fortnight.
I think some people confuse old with dirty. The linen was spotless and there lots of towels also clean. The kitchen and shower room were also clean but have obviously been there for some time. It must be impossible to keep an oven clean in a holiday let because guests will never be meticulous as at home at cleaning up spills before cooking again. The furniture in the main room is period but perfectly serviceable with huge cupboards and drawers and we found the suite reasonably comfortable. The large bed was also comfortable and warm enough - there was a spare quilt in the wardrobe which also housed the vacuum and ironing board.
There is hot water available instantly at all times.
The garden could be delightful and as a keen gardener it was easy to see just how much needed to be done. I'm afraid it is heading towards being extremely overgrown and untidy.
The location is perfect. A short drive into Ambleside and Grassmere is within walking distance. Many walks start from the cottage but we didn't have time for these.
The bar meals at the Badger Bar are excellent and they welcomed our dog in the bar.
I couldn't honestly say that I would recommend it to anyone else or that we would go again but to be fair, it is a lot cheaper than a lot of the other properties in the area and if price is one of the things important in your choice then it probably is value for money.
Despite the niggles we had a lovely weekend overall.
