This is what you imagine a luxury hotel is like but real. I am already looking at booking for my next trip.
After a long road trip through Japan, this is the perfect location to rest, recover, and relax. Everywhere you look is beautiful. Additionally, the Usui Wing was recently renovated and very comfortable, so that was good timing on our part.
This is also the only place that had humane weather on this trip (May is already quite humid and hot).
Every member of the staff was absolutely lovely and I strongly recommend you book their breakfast and make the dinner reservation at Hinoki. The seafood in the teppanyaki was incredibly fresh and delicious. The meat in the sukiyaki melted in my mouth.
Afterwards, we were very full both nights and my daughter wanted to go on a long walk. The air was very clean, crisp, and fresh.

My husband and I arrived late in the evening. We went shopping a little too long at the nearby outlet.
The location is sorta out of the way, we literally had to walk about 15-20 minutes in the dark with our luggage like losers. So try to arrive there during the day, because it's all forest and narrow streets. But once we arrived it felt like we stepped back in time when "hospitality" was really a thing. We felt outside our tax bracket staying there, but the staff never let us feel like that. We felt like a valued guest, and they were all so personable. We only stayed for a night, but it was a REAL treat. So glad to have experienced our stay here. If I could, I would come here again.

The customer service of Mampei Hotel exceeds my expectations. I’ve booked a golf course but the weather of the day of my booking isn’t well. While I don’t speak fluent Japanese, the hotel staff called the golf course for me to rearrange the booking for me. That’s a memorable experience. The room has nostalgic design, and the cleanliness is off the charts. They also have lots of different merchandise in the store to get as souvenirs. Great experience.

We enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The staff were very accommodating; the breakfasts we had were delicious, and; the complementary things we got were high quality. The room was also spacious and very clean.
