This is a 100 year old hotel in the village of Alert Bay. Our room had a small balcony with a great view. The breakfast included bread, fruit and yogurt. The dining room downstairs had a limited menu. Don’t pay any attention to the one posted online. Prices, of course were higher , but the food was good.

Amazing location on the water with the added bonus of a restaurant on site. Varied and fresh items for a self-serve breakfast. Walls are thin so bring ear plugs as not all guests are respectful. The owner was great at providing information about the area and the ferry before arrival.

It's an old inn and rustic which is cool but it is missing something. Staff is adequate but there was little interaction or interest in the guests. Aside from one cheery table server the owner and wife were lackluster, and we had the impression they didn't really want to be there. The restaurant menu needs an update with fresh salads and fresh food. Too much food comes from frozen like French fries, halibut even the beef and broccoli were from the freezer. Fries accompany most food with no other choices, i.e. a salad. Sticky menus and stained aprons are not impressive. The continental breakfast could use more variety and don't put out brown bananas. The rooms are clean but the lazy-boy chair in my room looked old and stained. Having a balcony was great and overall, everything was okay but too expensive for what you got.

Thank you to Will, for upgrading us to an ocean view room, where we could sit on the deck and admire the stunning ocean view. The complementary breakfast was substantial, again with fantastic views. Dinner in the restaurant was convenient and delicious. We highly recommend the Nimkish Hotel

My room did not have heating when I arrived. I aske for another room and the lady told me there was no room available... After 2 hours she called and told me there was one available ...? Karaoke under my room all night Drunk peoples yelling in the hallway

Amazing experience. Felt at home. Very accomodating got an upgrade to room with balcony and oceanview upper level. Very quite and clean. Complimentary breakfast. The hostess was amazing, made special food for me due to dietary restrictions, very delicious. Very caring and kind.

Loved this place! Heritage property. Owners on site. During a power outage the hotel was the only business on the island to have a generator. No lights upstairs but candles were provided. Generator ran the kitchen and the restaurant was buzzing. The owners made the adventure fun!!! I’d stay again and hope for a power outage!

We absolutely loved our stay at the Nimpkish! We stayed in the Romantic room on the top floor and very much enjoyed our deck which had the most incredible sunset ocean view. The owners were the best! Very friendly and visible throughout our stay! Breakfast provided in the sunroom was excellent! Coffee, tea, OJ, hardboiled eggs, toast, yogurt, fresh fruit, etc. It was wonderful to eat in the morning in a town that has few restaurants. Just to note... this Romantic room does not have a shower but it does have a very large sunken tub with at handheld shower nozzle which was no problem for us. I highly recommend this hotel and would definitely return!

We had the top floor which had an amazing view, private balcony, spacious room, and clean. Large soaker tub was difficult for elderly or partially disabled people to get in and out of and only has a pull-out shower cable. Would stay at this location again but would prefer a room with a stand-up shower.

The Nimpkish hotel is charming and delightful. There is not a more beautiful spot. I stayed here for several nights as a woman traveling alone and could not have enjoyed it more. The owners and staff are delightful. I can't wait to return.

We enjoyed our stay at the Nimpkish Hotel! Our room was cosy and comfortable with SPECTACULAR OCEAN FRONT views! The brightly coloured hotel is cheerful and so are the owners (who are hands on) and employees. Our dinner was fresh and tasty. I had halibut and chips and my his had a curry halibut and rice dish. After dinner we took a stroll back to our room, stopping in the breakfast nook / seating section to chat with a couple enjoying a bottle of wine. Once back in the room to our amazement we saw killer whales from the bedroom window! In the morning we had a complimentary coffee and lemon loaf with fruit as part of the continental breakfast. Our host was so lovely when we checked out she gave lots a few suggestions on things to do before catching our ferry back to Port McNeill. Thank you for a delightful stay! Holly and Jim

We had a room overlooking the bay with a small balcony which was stunning at sunset. We arrived late due to our ferry and the staff were happy to cook a meal for our family. They were delightful and happy to share information on the island. FYI, a ferry ride is needed to get to Telegraph Cove which is an Expedia issue. Would highly recommend.

I just got back from my vacation at north Vancouver Island and wanted to share what an amazing time I had at Alert Bay and at the Nimpkish Hotel. My trip goal was to see whales and have a relaxing time. Alert Bay is a perfect place to stay to do whale watching tours. Great company right there….. Seasmoke Whale Watching and very close ro Telegraph Cove, where there are other tour companies and kayak tours available. The hotel owners and staff are very friendly, food is delicious and the hotel location and setting is great!!!! I would definitely stay there again and would recommend it to anyone who wants to enjoy a relaxing, quiet and cozy vacation. We also got to see a pod of Orcas going through the front of the hotel and lots of eagles. What an amazing vacation!!!

We decided to stay on Cormorant Island while doing a loop trip from Kamloops around the Discovery Heritage trail to Prince Rupert - ferry to p Port Hardy - then down Vancouver Island and back home through Vancouver. Alert Bay is unique with a rich cultural history. We did a hike - the tall tree hike and it was short but beautiful...as well as a beach walk on rhe north side of the island. The Nimpkish Inn was a wonderful place to stay. It is an older place but has charm! Very clean with friendly owners.....we would definitely recommend.

The room was very clean, the bed incredibly comfortable, and we had a gorgeous view of the bay (room 6). The free breakfast options included delicious banana bread and sausage croissants. I don’t usually write reviews, but my stay at the Nimpkish warrants one. The building is old but that’s its charm; it’s not cutting edge, but everything works, everything is comfortable, and everything has character that you won’t find in a brand new building. I won’t go into all the details that made my stay there one of my best hotel experiences, I will just focus on the biggest one which is that the hosts there are quite literally the nicest people I’ve ever come across in a hotel. Within minutes of arriving, I can honestly say without exaggeration that it felt like I was staying with family. The hospitality really is that good, and they seem genuinely lovely people. Nothing was too much to ask, and anything I needed was provided immediately. The only downside of the Nimpkish is that it was so good that it means I will probably never get to try out any of the other accommodation in the area, because if I go back to Alert Bay I will go to the Nimpkish every single time.
