The Sporties is actually a tradies' pub, and the only sportsmen you're likely to see are on the big telly screens. But it does the job well, even if it's getting to feel a bit out of place in a part of town, midway between the city centre and the hospital, that's rapidly becoming Launceston's Carlton. Main thing going for it is that it's exceptional value, leaving you with a saving you can blow at some of the nice eateries round about. The rooms are basic but solid, the beds are comfortable, the facilities and public areas are kept scrupulously clean and the staff are all very welcoming. It's not too noisy even on a Saturday night, though I did get a bit of noise from the neighbouring room which was separated from mine by a thinnish communicating door. Only possible worry for the elderly is that the stairs are quite steep and narrow, but at least they have a sloid balustrade to hang on to.

Have given neutral scores for this as when I arrived, the staff could not locate my booking and the rooms were full. As it was an error on their end, they reserved me a place in the Best Western instead.
