Captivated by the historical significance of the property regarding Joan of Arc and the Battle of Orleans. Late booking had us 57 narrow stairs up in a non-air conditioned room which did not excite my husband but it overlooked the river and the moon view compensated all that for me.

Staying in an old fortified property dating back to the 100 years war with stunning views from the bedroom of the Loire river was definitely a unique experience. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast on the terrace was lovely.

The relais is a unique historic property in a quiet town along the beautiful Loire River. The staff appeared kind on the surface. The bathroom in the room was clean. On check in we pointed out that the curtains on our room, in the front corner of the hotel, facing the street, did not close. We were told the market was not open and they had nothing in their hotel to fix it. We used hair bands for the first night and on day 2 nothing was done to remedy the curtains. The windows and curtains were also filthy. The lights next on the left side of the bed did not work. There was also a book on the desk with mildly pornographic material and we were travelling with children. The breakfast buffet was well picked over at 9am and we had to find a staff person to ask it to be restocked. We asked to check out of a 3-night reservation after the 2nd night. Orbitz said it would handle it. When we did not hear back from Orbitz the next morning, the staff advised they had agree with Orbitz we would pay the hotel directly and Orbitz would refund us. After 2 weeks we have paid for 5 nights, but only stayed 2 in a crappy hotel. I'm disappointed with both my service from the hotel and Orbitz. I have spoken with multiple Orbitz staff but they say they are waiting on the hotel to confirm. I have provided receipts and the management of the Relais is refusing to contact Orbitz according to them. Either the hotel or Orbitz is trying to steal my money. DO NOT STAY HERE.

Beautiful location by the Loire River. Historic building. Great service, loved the friendliness of the staff. Restaurant served a delicious dinner in great atmosphere by the river. The town of Meung itself is a hidden gem, well preserved Medieval buildings, not crowded, pretty little canals. Well worth a visit off the beaten path.

Chance booking, as we wanted to split up our journey and we were blown away by the location. Right on the Loire river bank with stunning views, very peaceful and tranquil. The Hotel was beautifully restored maintaining a lot of the original features inc wooden beams, floors with the modernisation of bathrooms but in keeping with the period building. Short walk into the village centre where we found nice restaurants/bars. Staff were really friendly and accommodating and we would not hesitate to recommend this hotel. We will be returning next time in France

The building itself is gorgeous and the setting right on the river fantastic. Inside it is very run down - beware the stairs particularly which are steep and slippery. The receptionist was very helpful. The restaurant runs separately from the hotel so expect to pay separately. Both stunned me by adding heavy extras to the bill - for example the restaurant had an extra 20% and an extra 10% - and the hotel 10% which adds a lot to the expected costs. I thought it was very overpriced as a result

Our room was a good size with a seating area and well supplied with toiletries, etc. The whole place looks well maintained. The hotel is built around a courtyard, with a pond and ramparts! Its just a 5 minute walk along the river into the old town. Plenty of free parking right outside. There is a restaurant but we didnt use this so cant comment. Wifi is free but a bit slow.

I was very cross when I came to leave the hotel as they tried to charge me more than I had been billed from yourself, saying it was a computer error !! this hotel was already expensive for one at 204.00 euros for the night.WE also got charged for breakfast the coffee machine didnt work, this hotel advertises that it a luxury hotel but its far from it the gardens are very tired and not kept up to, the rooms and not very clean this is such a shame because it could be a wonderful hotel very disappointed with my stay. This was supposed to be a treat at the end of a holiday but sadly wasnt.

The poor waiter was running around like a scene from fawlty towers and we eventually received 2 beers and a menu at 9,30. 20 minutes later our meal order was taken and miraculously 2 minutes later the food arrived !

This was one of our last stays on a combined anniversary and big birthday trip in France. Everything about the hotel was superb - service, style, comfort, location and cleanliness. I had requested in advance a room on the ground or first floor, as my wife is rather claustrophobic. At first the owner took us to a second floor room, which was beautiful but rather small and high up. When I mentioned my request, the owner explained that it had not been passed on to him, and immediately showed us to the most amazing room on the first floor. It would normally have been twice the price, but he allowed us to stay there at no extra cost. In the morning, the tables inside the restaurant were laid for breakfast, but when we asked if it was possible to eat outside by the river on their veranda (then laid for lunch, as we soon realised) as it was such a beautiful morning, he unhesitatingly cleared the lunch cutlery and relaid the table for our breakfast. When we left, he even came out to the car to see us off. It was all a magical, outstanding experience.
