Room ok, but... the FRIDGE was NOT WORKING and had a very bad smell in inside!!! I had my my medications to keep cool in there and realised only on the third day that all was not right! Also, the windows - the hotel being very old - would not open/close easily. The outside green shutters totaly rusty and hard to open. Staff ok, although following my request for extra pillows&douvet - there were none in the wardrobe like in ALL the hotels I have ever stayed! - a member of staff entered my room while the "do not disturb" sign was on and just THREW the items on my unmade bed, in a very uncerimonious way, it seemed to me, and I found them on my return from my breakfast. The correct way I would have expected from such a 4☆ hotel, would have been to place them tidely on the table, perhaps, or the chair or the wardrobe!? Not just chucked on the unmade bed! Seemed to me a rather SHODDY way of doing things! Breakfast: totally marvellous! Bar, not used.

The public areas and rooms are fantastic and the staff very welcoming. The pool area could do with an update, but perhaps this is next as our room was freshly decorated with a lovely new bathroom. Excellent breakfast and perhaps the best ever scrambled eggs from a buffet. Dinner was fine, but not nearly as good as breakfast. Lovely pre dinner drinks in the cocktail bar with a nice selection of canapés. If you enjoy old world style, you will enjoy staying here.

This was a last minute one night booking...the hotel front desk staff very nice, helpful, the only thing we arrived late and parking was full. The front desk lady who checked us in ( forgot her name) offer her parking spot if we couldn't find street parking. We did find parking behind the hotel. This was very thoughtful of her. Breakfast was delicious with plenty to chose from...wish we could hv enjoyed more of this beautiful hotel.

This stylish olde worlde charm property was in a prominent position in viareggio. It retains its charm but has excellent facilities. The staff are all amazing and we were always greeted with a bonjourno by the reception staff. We would love to visit again

Second time staying at this beautiful property. What a treat to stay at this perfectly preserved beachside resort. So elegant! Front desk told us it’s all original to the early 1900’s and it’s wonderful. Breakfast buffet is superb. Dinner menu changes every night and we enjoyed dining in 2 of our 3 nights there as the menu, service, and food is better than anything across the street at the beach. Lunch by the pool is no exception to the fabulous food and service. The hotel, and area in general, had a Studio Ghibli vibe - antique and old world infused with modern amenities. We pulled up “Kiki’s Delivery Service” on Netflix and snuggled together watching it our first night. If you know, you know. If you don’t, watch the charming movie!

Need to make the elevator less scary.... I did not use it after the first time , I was on the 5th floor and the elevator dropped 10-12 inches at the top. Decided to use all 124 stairs instead.

This hotel is AMAZING! Beautiful building in a prominent position looking out to the beach with gated parking; it has a grand presence both inside & out. Lots of options for rooms with a sea view, some with a balcony. Helpful staff (we saw a lot of Alfredo on the main desk & he was brilliant!), everything was clean & the food fantastic. Breakfast was a large buffet catering for different dietary requirements plus a la carte options if preferred. There was a separate bar serving cocktails; & a further dining room where we were well looked after for evening meals. Out back is a garden & pool open during high season. Everything is reasonably priced & no hidden extras. We'll be going back!

We honeymooned in Viareggio 20 years ago and returned for our 20th anniversary last week. On arrival at the Grand Hotel Royal, the Receptionist said they’d upgraded us to a room with a balcony facing the seafront, which was really lovely….each evening we sat on the balcony, drinking a glass of wine before dinner and watching the world go by. Throughout our stay, the staff were all really helpful and friendly, the food was excellent (except for the steak) and the peaceful swimming pool and bar area is like a secluded oasis, surrounded by trees that block out the neighbouring building. If we ever return to Viareggio, we will definitely stay at the Grand Hotel Royal again!

What an elegant place! Time turned back and I was living in an old movie, but with current day amenities. The staff was so professional and attentive. We had lunch at the pool, dinner at the restaurant, and the breakfast buffet. Each meal was perfect. I haven’t felt so relaxed and comfortable since well before Covid. What a special place!

What an amazing place! The grounds were just stunning and we were thrilled to have still been able to enjoy the pool in October. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Rooms were the most spacious I have had in my 2 weeks in Europe. Bartender can whip some unique cocktails for you as well. Would definitely come again.
