Overall Impression Having traveled to Hanoi monthly since 2022, I have experienced every tier of hospitality in the city, but the absolute failure in basic communication on my arrival night was unlike any shitty service I’ve encountered here. That said, what started as pure rage ended up turning around entirely due to the extreme accountability, generosity, and genuine care of the management team. Initial Check-In & Unannounced Room Transfer I booked my stay one to two weeks in advance to unwind after a brutal workweek. Arriving at 6:30 PM, I was furious to be told by manager James that my room’s air conditioning was broken and had been out for the entire day. The fact that the hotel knew about this for hours and couldn't be bothered to send a single email or call to warn me was completely unacceptable. To make matters worse, a friend who booked just days prior was given a perfectly fine room at the main hotel, while I—having paid a similar rate—was unceremoniously transferred to their sister property, Minerva Apartment Hotel. James called a Grab and personally accompanied us to the building. That temporary apartment was an absolute disaster, despite James repeatedly reassuring me that it was a newer and far superior property: Misleading Photos & Missing Living Room: James showed me photos of a modern 2-bedroom unit complete with a living room, but there was no living room at all—just a dingy, tired 1-bedroom. Inconvenient Access: The elevator only went up to the 4th floor, forcing me to haul my luggage up the stairs to reach the 5th floor. Bizarre & Awkward Layout: The layout was utterly weird. Two twin beds were sitting right there in the first room, rooftop access was to the right, and to the left were 3 steps down into another room with a queen bed and the wet all-in-one bathroom—so my friend had to walk directly through my bedroom just to use our shared bathroom. Low Ceilings & Filth: The ceiling was so absurdly low that my friend couldn't even stand up straight. The unit was filthy and dusty, with musty towels smelling of rust/metal. Zero Comfort: The AC barely worked, and with short blinds and a completely transparent rooftop door, bright light flooded the room, ruining any chance of sleep. Service Recovery & Return to Minerva Church Hotel Once inside the apartment and realizing how badly we had been misled, I confronted James and yelled at him for the blatant discrepancy—he profusely apologized on the spot for the misrepresentation. When the apartment called a Grab to bring me back to Minerva Church Hotel the next morning, James and manager Lisa immediately acknowledged just how badly they had botched the entire situation. Instead of making excuses, they took full ownership: Upgrades & Compensation: Upgraded my room and gave both my friend and me complimentary 60-minute massages. Thoughtful Touches: Sent fresh fruit platters and juice to both of our rooms, and handed us a box of Legend coffee when checking out. Proactive Service: Receptionist Lyly made sure my room key was configured to keep the AC blasting so it remained ice-cold whenever I returned. Hotel Room & Amenities Room: Night and day compared to the apartment—spotless, extremely cozy, and equipped with powerful AC. Breakfast: Fantastic spread featuring two Phở options and customizable egg orders. Laundry: Unbeatable value at just $2 USD per kilogram. Final Verdict The initial neglect, false promises, and horrific alternative accommodation were easily some of the worst service moments I've faced in years of traveling to Hanoi. However, James, Lisa, and Lyly proved that true 5-star service recovery isn't about being perfect—it's about fixing mistakes with genuine effort. Thanks to their incredible response, I would actually return to Minerva Church Hotel.

Agoda really messed up our booking. Luckily the staff allowed us to check in and settle the issue the next morning. The hotel fits our requirement especially its location that is very close to most tourist attractions and halal food. The highlight of the stay is the definitely the staff of the hotel. They went great length not let anything spoil our stay.

Great location. Close to the Old Quarter area and walking distance from restaurants and the lake. The staffs are super helpful and friendly. However, the room I was put in had this terrible strong odors that is uncomfortable to breath. I had to endure the whole night since there's no more rooms available to switch. The staff spray some air freshener but it just masked the odor for few minutes. Luckily the staff switched me to another room the next day that didn't have odor issue.
