Gategaa Village

Loved it!

Absolutely loved this little gem tucked away a few minutes away from the old town. The hotel is beautifully decorated, with excellent service. Rooms are clean and tastefully furnished. The shower pressure is amazing. Highly recommend

We were very kindly received by the staff at Gategaa Village. The apartment is very well equipped with very well chosen decor. The hotel is close to the old town, but still far enough to have peace and quiet. The pool has a view to the mountain and is a great way to end the day. Breakfast is very diverse with Thai and western options. Would recommend to anyone visiting Chiang Mai.

I stayed here for two nights. The place basically has everything you need, and the breakfast and dinner were actually quite nice and very comforting, the quality are even better than maldives 5 star resort. They should open a café for public. Lol However, there are several issues that future guests should be aware of. The noise level is extremely high. The walls are paper‑thin — I could clearly hear children crying, geckos making sudden loud noises around the building, dog barks and refrigerator noises and even a full sequence of repetitive sounds and conversations from the neighboring room, including the intervals and the shower afterward around 2am. Corridor noises were even louder than motorbikes. Many guests were still very active around 1 AM, making it impossible to have a good sleep if you are sensitive to noise. The overall atmosphere was loud and active throughout the day and night. The room is extremely damp, with a strong humidity smell and many mosquitoes hiding in dark corners. The reception lady kindly helped me change to another room, and I could hear her spraying repellent before I entered, but the damp smell and humidity were still the same. The bed, bedding, towels, and even the walls felt consistently damp, with nothing dry or comfortable in the entire room. The bathroom door cannot be fully closed, and water keeps leaking from the shower area toward the toilet, often flooding the entire toilet floor. Even after a whole night, the floor was still wet. On the first night, my face started itching, which made me wonder if something in the room triggered an allergic reaction. The overall feeling is dark, humid, and uncomfortable. The stairs and lift system require extra caution. The property uses an old mechanical lift to move luggage to the upper floors, and the steps on the staircase are uneven in height. You need to be very careful going up and down, as it is easy to lose balance if you are not paying attention. You will also hear the mechanical lift clearly if your room is nearby, as the sound carries easily through the building. The service style is “smile and say no.” Even when the staff made a mistake — such as taking away my coffee cup too early — they still refused to help warm up the coffee I made myself. Staff attitudes can be unpredictable. I don’t mind the all the issues from the peroperty but the service is the main off putting turning point for me to reconsider it again, I love their food. Yummy~~
