    This used to be my favorite hotel in Beijing -- 15 years ago. Last year, I stayed in a suite and it had been renovated. It was lovely and I would stay there again. This summer I was traveling on my own and stayed in a regular room. I found the furniture, bathroom and bedding really old and tired. Breakfast is quite good for China, location near Wangfujing is great. I like being able to do my laundry. However, that level of room is not worth the $*** I paid.

    The receptionists have no smile during check-in. There is no greetings whenever you passed the staff. The whole floor and room has left over cigarette smell.

    I think this hotel is a hidden gem—a great hotel that not many people know about. This hotel is less than a 1-minute walk from Deng Shi Kou Station and is only a 10-minute walk to Wang Fu Jing. However, I like the Deng Shi Kou location more, as it has fewer tourist-oriented shops and feels more local. I guess this hotel is not well known because it is behind another hotel with a similar Chinese name. The hotel is old-style, but its rooms are spacious, clean, and efficient. I like its charm. At least one staff member speaks very fluent English, and the others can speak good English too. If I had to cherry-pick something that needs improvement, I would like the washing machines to be commercial grade instead of domestic grade, so they could offer a quick 20-minute wash and dry cycle. However, the laundry is free of charge, so I can't ask for more. On top of that, there is a ZANBUS stop just outside the hotel that takes you to the Great Wall. I highly recommend this hotel as it offers excellent value for money.
