It was truly a breath of fresh air, despite the inclement weather!

An absolutely stunningly renovated, grand medieval building. Utterly gorgeous interiors and tasteful artwork and design. Perfectly placed for a touring cyclist attempting Umbrail - Stelvio early in the morning.

Possibly my own fault, but a sleepless night thanks to a swarm of flies in my room. I am guessing that there may be a cattle shed in the proximity of my window (views gorgeous), and that at the risk of spoiling the room with a view aesthetic, some means of stopping the flies entering the window would be a wise addition. One staff member was very lovely and welcoming but I am afraid a couple of others were impolite and cold. Perhaps it was my cycling vibe and they were concerned that I was bringing the tone down. Or perhaps they were just rude.

For sure someone who never stayed before will love it.

I stayed before in this hotel while was still under the previous management so this review has that background. The charm of the place is undeniable, the house is gorgeous and being so central and close to bus stop and the Monastery is a huge plus. Room was huge (Junior Suite) and full of charm. Breakfast had a few locally sourced ingredients which were delicious.

The vibe and soul are gone, now is managed like any other business. We had a table for dinner but could not find on the menu anything local/traditional so we left to eat somewhere else nearby where that was possible.

Chalavaina delight

The hotel is in a beautiful picturesque valley, in a quiet village, there is almost no traffic, feels easy to relax as you're clearly away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Great base for cycling and walking. I had a single room which was simple clean and comfortable looking out to a square. The hotel feels like it has kept it's historic vibe, whilst being comfortable and clean throughout. There is free car parking 150 metres away.

Would have been nice to have coffee / tea facilities.

The concept of being antique.The bed old furniture but at least comfortable.

I was just one night but the single which is close to the entrance was noisy and bright for sleeping.Disposition of the corridors and common spaces strange, it looks like an old abandoned house hastily converted into a hotel.The diner was gut like quality, but not choice at all,just three main course, at leat one vegetarian.The breakfast also poor, no fruit juices, even no bottle of water.The staff was „polite“: at 20:15 when I went to the restaurant they politely told me that there is no free places, but there is a free place in the lounge, which was a separate room where I had to stay alone.Good, that on the small balcony there was a table, so I moved there and it was quite pleasant.Expensive food for such a hote: 81 CHF for pork steak,a bit bread and 400 ml red wine.For the breakfast I wanted to eat outside, but the staff told me that there are two ladies already outside when the table is at least for 8 people.

The misterious historic ambience of the aera with Jon B. Fasser got lost. It’s much brighter now, though, more modern, but also less unique. The food is still good, but not as down to earth local as it used to be.

L’hotel trasmette una pace e una serenità meravigliose. Si tratta di una struttura datata, ma proprio questo la rende unica e affascinante, curata e ben pulita in ogni suo aspetto. La cucina è spettacolare, sia a colazione sia a cena. Tutti i prodotti sono di alta qualità e tanti di essi fatti in casa.

Il pavimento della nostra stanza scricchiolava un po’ troppo. Ma è anche questo il bello di soggiornare in un hotel di montagna :)

Wunderschönes historisches Haus, das mit sehr viel Liebe zum Detail und Leidenschaft geführt wird. Feine lokale Produkte und abwechlungsreiche Küche. (Frühstücksbuffet und Abendessen) . Besonders gemütlich die Lounge mit Teebar, lokalem Gebäck, Honig und Früchten. Dei Geschäftsführerin Isolde "schleift hier gerade einen Rohdimanten zu einem versteckten Juwel" : Ihre Leidenschaft von Top Gastronomie und Service wird vom ganze Team weitergetragen: sehr freundliche Reception, Zimmerservice, Restaurant und Küche. Im Val Mustair und Umgebung gibt es noch so Vieles zu entdecken von der Kultur / Hitorie der Klosers, und verschiedensten sporlichen Aktivitäten, ideal für jene, die Natur & Bewegung lieben, ob im Sommer oder Winter.

Gastgeben in historischem Gebäude auf hohem Niveau

Klasse Frühstück, aussergewöhnlich vielfältig, sorgfältig dekoriert, schmeckt hervorragend. Ebenso das Abendessen ist purer Genuss, raffinierte und geschmackvolle Gerichte, für alle Sinne erlebbar. Mir gefiel auch das Arvenstübli / der Aufenthaltraum mit gemütlichem Interieur, interessanten Lesestoff und Wasserkocher für Teezubereitung. Wie eine private Stube.

In dem klein(st)en gemütlichen Zimmer hatte es für mich zu wenig Haken für Kleider bzw. Ablagefläche und es ist für grosse Menschen eher nicht gut geeignet. Dennoch schmälert es nicht das Gesamterlebnis

Das Haus ist sehr stilvoll und authentisch eingerichtet, alles passt und es ist einfach gemütlich, die Küche war hervorragend, wir durften ein Abendessen während den Wildtagen geniessen und es bleibt unvergessen, auch das Frühstücksbuffet war wunderbar, alle waren sehr nett und hilfsbereit, wir waren mit unserem kleinen Hund sehr willkommen und fühlten uns rundum wohl, vielen Dank nochmals für den wunderbaren Aufenthalt.

Spezielle Unterkunft

Das Hotel ist sehr speziell und als Übernachtung ein Erlebnis. Es hat mir sehr gut gefallen. Im Restaurant kann man sehr gut essen und trinken. Es braucht etwas Zeit ind Geduld. Ich empfehle ein Abendessen mindesten zu zweit. Das Personal war freundlich und hilfsbereit.

Sehr reichliches Frühstück, liebevoll präsentiert. Das Hotel ist direkt gegenüber vom Kloster, die Bushaltestelle ist auch dort. Das Haus ist sehr schön und gemütlich.

Wir fühlten uns im sanft renovierten historischen Gasthaus sehr wohl, wir werden gerne wieder kommen

Sehr reichhaltiges Frühstück, einige trendige, sympathische Zutaten. Einmalig schöne Gaststube, ausgezeichnetes Nachtessen. Sehr freundliches entgegenkommendes Personal. Unser Zimmer lag gegen den Garten, wunderbar ruhig.

Die Badezimmer wirken stilistisch in die Jahre gekommen, sie sind aber überhaupt nicht baufällig und erfüllten unsere Ansprüche vollständig.

Wir waren vom uns zugewiesenen Zimmer - il cuvel da l'uors - sehr enttäuscht!

Gute Lage in der Nähe des Zentrums, Kirchengeläut der Klosterkirche St. Johann (Weltkulturerbe!) nicht allzu aufdringlich, netter Garten (erschlossen durch steile Holztreppe), schönes frisches Frühstück z.T. mit einheimischen Produkten, gutes Duvet.

Wir haben ein normales Zweibettzimmer gebucht. Uns wurde dann - ungefragt und ohne, dass wir zugestimmt hätten - ein sogenanntes Upgrade verpasst, dass sich als echtes Downgrade entpuppte. Auf unsere Intervention hin, dass wir vor 42 Tagen nicht eine dunkle Abstellkammer gebucht hätten (der Zimmername heisst, sehr passend, auf Deutsch "Bärenhöhle") hiess es an der Rezeption, es gäbe kein anderes Zimmer... Fazit: Downgrades werden hier einfach verpasst. Das Verhältnis Preis-Leistung (210.- bis 230.- CHF / Nacht) stimmt bei diesem Zimmer keineswegs! Es handelt sich um eine unzureichend ausgestattete, lange, dunkle Abstellkammer/Turnhalle. Es fehlen: • Ablagemöglichkeiten für die Koffer • Ablagefläche(n) im Badzimmer (es gibt Platz für insgesamt 1 Kulturbeutel auf dem WC-Spülkasten) • eine Antirutsch-Ausstattung oder ein Haltegriff in der Badewanne/Dusche (mit Vorhang) • irgendein Bild an der Wand u.a.m Eine Mehrfachsteckleiste für den Stromanschluss findet man unter dem Bett. Die elektrische Ausstattung besteht insgesamt aus 5 Lampen und 1 Föhn. Es gibt weder Radio, Fernseher, Wecker noch Telefon. Dafür aber ein Neues Testament auf dem Fenstersims! (Warum fehlt das Alte Testament? > unvollständige "Aufklärung") Die Nachttische bestehen aus einer umfunktionierten alten Schublade. Nützlicher wären sie mit einem eingefügten Brett als zusätzliche Ablage (statt dass alles auf bodenhöhe liegt). Die auf der Webseite vielgepriesene Kombination von Altem mit Modernem ist in diesem Zimmer wahrlich missglückt... Frage im Zusammenhang mit dem Verhältnis von Preis zu Leistung: Was ist die Bedeutung des Zusatzes "historic"? Weniger Ausstattung, dafür höherer Preis? Leinenvorhänge statt Gleitschutz in der Dusch-Bade-Wanne? Bibel statt Radio? Keine Kippfenster, dafür sehr grosser Zimmerschlüssel (pro Zimmer 1 Stück/Reception nicht durchgehend besetzt).

Historisches Hotel in Val Müstair

Sehr schönes Hotel (rund 800-jähriges Gebäude) im historischen Stil erhalten und mit viel Charme renoviert - zu grössten Teil noch im ursprünglichen Zustand - direkt am Dorplatz resp. neben dem Kloster San Jon - Bushaltestelle praktisch neben dem Hotel. Das Abendessen in sehr schönen Speisesaal ist sehr zu empfehlen - Frühstück mit vielen lokalen Produkten. Ich komme gerne wieder zurück.

Für mich hat alles gepasst.

L'hôtel Chalavaina est une magnifique maison qui respire le calme et la tranquillité. Chambre spacieuse, petit déjeuner délicieux avec des produits de la région, le jardin est un petit paradis et le soir un thé dans le stube est un vrai plaisir Les bouquets qui décorent les différentes pièces de la maison viennent du jardin et c'est un régal pour les yeux.

Nous avons trouvé que le prix du menu du soir était surfait pour des clients de l'hôtel qui n'avaient pas pris la demi-pension.
