Cosy, clean and enough room.

Location, cottage with atmosphere
Why not a five? For over 250 euros a night I would expect a certain level of luxury. For this price you book a luxury hotel. In this cottage the couch is low and weak, the duvet covers in the two beds bedroom are of synthetic material, the internet is non existent apart from the living (I know, thick walls, but a repeater does miracles). So, an average cottage for a top price.

The decorating of making the place very homely and warm. It’s the perfect place to get to anything. While we stayed we enjoyed the boats out on the lakes. Beatrix potter’s cottage place. Amusement arcades.
Nothing I adored everything to the name to the character of the building inside and out to the thoughtful gifts of owners and staff.

The location was great, easy to get to, walk from the doorstep, bus stop, Pub and Spar close by. Ideally located to got to different locations around Lake Windermere and others. Quiet during the night.
Some blinds in the kitchen area and on the main door would be amazing. Not necessary, but nice to have.

The location was great and the property had plenty of character! The property was very clean with excellent facilities. It’s. Wonderful character property with all the modern furniture and conveniences. The owners were very helpful and responded very quickly. I cannot fault the property or the owners! We look forward to our next stay.

Lovely little cottage. But needs to be noted that the cottage is very close to a very busy main road - think this needs to be noted for people staying with children. Great stay though, lovely area.
The cottage was quite damp, windows would have lots of condensation and also smelt like damp. Also worth noting the pub close by has now closed.

We chose the cottage because of its name and weren’t disappointed. It was so cosy that we almost wished we’d had a day of rain so we could have stayed there to enjoy the atmosphere more! The location was fantastic too and the parking just across the road not a problem either.
Nothing. It was perfect.

I loved the quirkiness of Quirky Cottage, my partner didn't (he's an engineer and there is not a straight line to be found!). Well equipped kitchen had everything we needed and there was plenty space for us as a couple (we used bedroom 2 as a dressing room!).
Next to a lovely pub!
Super handy for bus stops going both directions (I'd advise bussing into Bowness if you are going there as parking during peak summer season is not easy and the bus is perfect!) and you can have a wine with lunch and not worry about driving back (and re-parking... see below!)
Parking is difficult - the parking spaces we were advised to park in were usually full so we had to park across a busy road. It wasn't far and we managed as 2 adults, but with kids and all the extra luggage they require might make this difficult to carry everything you need from the car to the cottage. Just be aware parking is not available at the door (even to unload)
We were going to a wedding and struggled to press our outfits with the tiny table top ironing board provided. A full size would have been better.
On the first morning, there was no hot water, total panic as we were attending a family wedding. I had to have a cold shower before going to hairdresser, we did manage to fix this ourselves after realizing the boiler had de-pressurised and needed topped up. We called the housekeeper for help, she asked the owner to call us but we fixed it ourselves before they called back.
The grounds around the cottage would be unsuitable for anyone unsteady on their feet, fine for us but the path was uneven and gravelly. In fact the whole cottage has an uneven floor, again didn't really bother us but might be an issue for some....

Quirky
No parking at property, quite a walk from road in rain and with luggage, uphill. Surprised no one has mentioned this. Weekend mornings, parking 10 min walk away due to school football matches. House backs onto Busy road (main road into Lakes), noise in bedrooms (single glazed).

Unforgettable stay, big thanks to the host for the support at anytime. This is the place really needed for a family vacation, cottage very nice experience. Definitely will be my place in Windermare for the next visit, very nice cottage smell. The lake a bit far but public buss around the area

Excellent parking space available very close to the property.

The cottage was cute and nicely furnished with everything we needed. Would not be suitable for 2 couples.
There was nowhere to park. We looked around for an hour and a half and eventually had to park in stinging nettles and brambles. The outside area was nothing like the pictures, unkept garden weeds everywhere, dirty table and chairs with full ashtray, completely overlooked by 4 cottages a couple of meters away, no privacy at all.

Quirky Cottage is absolutely that - you are staying in a piece of history and it is an experience in itself. My baby just learned to walk and found the undulating floors a hilarious challenge! The cottage is incredibly well-equipped for everything you could need for a stay with children, a travel cot, a portable high-chair, a little stash of toys (which my 5 year old loved). It is also comfortable and luxurious and every effort has been made by the hosts to make your stay enjoyable. The rooms are lovely and cosy and have comfortable and stylish furniture. It was everything we needed for a home from home.
The location was fantastic, a lovely pub with great food next door, fabulous walks on the doorstep (with lovely views over the lake from the hill behind the house) and close by to most of the attractions Windermere and surroundings have to offer.
The host was very responsive and got some new lightbulbs shipped to us next day when we asked if there were any spare! There is a folder with really detailed info on walks in the area which the host has written, and lots of recommendations too.
There was also a lovely welcome gift of milk, tea, coffee, chocolate and biscuits, all the essentials!
We will certainly recommend Quirky Cottage to friends and perhaps even be lucky enough stay again one day ourselves! Thank you.
I booked the property in haste so it is probably my fault for not reading the listing fully, but I did not realise it was split into two apartments. The downstairs apartment was shut off by a door and a curtain, but these did not do an awful lot to hide the noise from the family below (not an unreasonable amount of noise, just usual sounds of playing card games etc), nor did it keep out cooking smells. It would perhaps be an idea to get a secondary door or a heavier curtain on both sides to alleviate this. The noise was not a nuisance as such during our stay, but it could perhaps be if a noisier party was downstairs.
Additionally I assumed there was private parking at the cottage, which is not the case. There are some communal parking bays close by, but with the amount of bags and equipment we had for our children, it was quite an effort on a little cobbled path to get to/from the car. This could perhaps be made clearer in the listing.
In terms of the comfort and facilities of the cottage though, no complaints at all! The facilities are old - do not expect brand new rain showers! - because it is a very old property, but they all work perfectly.

Bad experience! Every facility was old! The first night the tap cannot be turned off, so we had to call them, but it appears that they didn't fix it during our stay. The last night at around 1 am we slept on the bed, suddenly a huge noise roused us up. It turned out to be the mirror which fell down. We were scared! ! They didn't hang the hook well, but asked us to pay for the broken mirror. But thx to the experience, we know we should leave audio and video evidence, next time when we stay at other hotels :(
