The Artist's Retreat

The kindest man hosts this place. Offering to pick be up or drop me off at the station, when the weather and the public transport were a bit unpredictable. The outside seating with lighting really did make it feel like a retreat and the fresh fruit, tea and bread made a real difference! Also Calstock itself is lovely.

Truly nothing. If I have to mention something, perhaps climbing back uphill on a hot day, but it’s worth it!

From the moment we arrived until we left the hosts were attentive and asking us if we needed anything. Fruit, bread, butter, oil and tea, coffee and milk on arrival. Plenty of toilet roll which is a big bonus for me. Even had handwash and showel gel. Quiet space with private garden. Comfy bed. Lovely garden area.

If I am being extremely picky the chairs were a bit hard.

Mark and Lynne were excellent hosts. They communicated from the day I booked, answering any queries we had. They gave detailed, easy to follow directions to the property which were so helpful. When we arrived there was a loaf of lovely sourdough bread, milk, butter and a bowl of fruit which was incredibly thoughtful. There was also a booklet with detailed instructions for everything which was helpful. Lynne even lent me a vase for some flowers my partner had bought me! And Mark picked up some milk for us as we didn't have a car to access shops. The property itself was very clean and comfortable with quirky features which we loved. It is at the top of a big hill (something to consider if travelling by public transport) but not far from the train station. We are keen walkers so not a problem but could be for some. We went for a lovely walk to Cotehele national trust estate. It was beautiful. We also enjoyed visiting the village and sitting by the river. We will definitely return to the Artist's Retreat. Nothing. The hill was challenging when feeling tired but it was worth the walk for the peaceful location.

It was well accommodated. Cute pleasant studio apartment

The fact that it didn't state that the accommodation was attached to the house and couldn't get any signal . The owners had control of the heating times . Also if you drive there is no parking
