Madeira Bay Resort I by Travel Resort Services

We had unit #1501 in Madera 1 building. The location was excellent and very convenient, two minutes to the beach and lots of shops and restaurants walking distance as they are right next to St. John’s cross. The pool area was a nice alternative when we wanted a break from the beach, and overall the condo was a good value for the money. The unit was comfortable, well-appointed, and cozy. I especially appreciated that there were no air fresheners throughout the property and that the linens did not appear to be washed with heavily scented detergents. As someone with fragrance sensitivities, this made a big difference. We were also grateful to be allowed an early check-in and for the staff member who made an exception to provide us with an additional parking pass.

For context, I own a short-term rental property management company similar to the one that manages these condos, so I understand the challenges of maintaining vacation rentals. The observations above are intended as factual feedback based solely on our experience during this stay. My biggest concern was housekeeping. The comforter on my bed did not appear to have been freshly laundered for my stay. I confirmed with management that they use unscented detergent for the linens, and the sheets themselves had no scent. However, the comforter had a noticeable smell that seemed more like personal perfume than detergent. This led me to believe the sheets had been washed, but the comforter had not been freshly laundered between guests. Another concern was a strong musty odor in the hallways of the condo building, as well as in the building where guests check in. The smell was noticeable throughout our stay and gave the impression that there may be an underlying moisture or mold issue that should be investigated for the safety pf staff and guests alike. Upon check-in, the floors were quite dirty, and our feet became black after walking barefoot for about 10 minutes while we unpacked as we wanted to keep our shoes off to keep the floors clean. Turns put they werent. There were dried food residues on some kitchen utensils, visible pink mold along the shower door track, and the nonstick frying pans were in very poor condition. The Teflon coating was heavily scratched and worn to the point that I did not feel comfortable cooking with them, so I ended up purchasing a replacement pan from Walmart for our stay. Communication and maintenance response times could also be improved. We reported a broken lamp upon arrival, and that issue was acknowledged. Later that same day, after office hours (around 6:00 PM), we sent a message through Booking.com regarding a floor fan that was not working.

The location was nice being walking distance to John’s pass. Shops and restaurants were very close. The beach access was right across the street.

The rooms are smaller than we anticipated. The location is waterfront but NOT beachfront. The pool is HIGHLY chlorinated and burns your eyes! It’s very small and you have to walk across a parking lot to get to it which isn’t ideal with kids. The parking situation is confusing, if you park on the left side the Marina manager is liable to tell you you will be towed and he is not very courteous. Our washer didn’t work and we had called several times and were told they would put in a work order, but it was never fixed. This was very inconvenient for a week with recycling towels and bathing suits. The water pressure is NOT good, the shower was more like a trickle.
