A real home from home!

We had a wonderful stay at The Old Butcher’s Cottage in Matlock. The cottage was beautifully presented, spotlessly clean, and full of character with all the modern comforts you could need. It felt like a real home from home. The location was perfect — just a short drive to Chatsworth House, which made exploring the estate and Christmas market so easy. There were also plenty of great local restaurants and pubs nearby, ideal for relaxed evenings after a day of sightseeing. Overall, a charming cottage in a fantastic spot — we’d definitely stay again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting the Peak District!

If we were to suggest any small improvements, it would be to repair the broken step outside the twin bedroom for safety, perhaps add a little more lighting in the lounge to make evenings even more inviting, and having access to a broom in the courtyard to sweep the leaves from the path/hot tube area.

Spacious, well equipped cottage with good access to the Peak District

Spacious, well equipped cottage with a very large kitchen. Decorated to a high standard, and very well presented. We didn’t use the hot tub, but it was ready for use and well maintained. Everything we needed for a very comfortable stay.

There were carpeted steps up to the twin bedroom- there was a hole under the carpet on the left hand side of the top step which you could feel underfoot as you went up the steps. The cottage was on quite a busy road, so there was some noise, particularly from buses. It was up a steep hill from the town. (Though Matlock is a very hilly place and this would apply to nearly all properties in the town)

Great facilities in the house, well equipped kitchen good range of dinnerware etc. The rooms were spacious, nice decor, stylish rooms. Received a nice welcome hamper. Enjoyed the hot tub too.

Really great overall

Loved the size and the location. Was spotlessly clean and the beds were lovely and comfy.

We’d have loved some lights in the outside area so that we could use the hot tub during the evening too.we also had trouble locating the heating thermostat, sent a message via booking.com but received no reply.

Five nights at Butchers

Comfortable seating in lounge. Comfortable beds. Kitchen well equipped. Welcome pack including a bottle. Spacious. Clean.

Black mould in both showers. Milk sachets left for us were almost a year out of date. We had to throw away our drinks on arrival. Bath plug didn't work. Lounge lighting poor and with dark walls it was quite depressing. Hot tub is huge and three older females did not risk using it. We would have needed rescue. Outside bins were overflowing, heavy to manoeuvre and difficult to place for collection if you have a car in drive. The main problem is parking. Very narrow drive for one car situated on a busy junction. I damaged my car. We chose this property because there was supposedly street parking for a second car. There is restricted parking nearby, and anything unrestricted was full. We had to park our second vehicle a considerable distance away and ferry ourselves and bags around (we are 3 older sisters).

Very enjoyable weekend with the family

We had a wonderful and very enjoyable weekend at the cottage, loved the hot tub - all very clean. Lovely host, communication was easy and clear instructions for everything - and we were allowed to check out a little later, which helped with being relaxed in the morning. The wider area around Matlock is obviously stunning, but we also enjoyed the town itself and the area around the cottage, great little local and very friendly pub as well as excellent pizza place next door! Thank you- we would definitely come again!

Gorgeous cottage with comfortable and spacious areas, and well lovated for the town and areas of interest.

The property was well set out and maintained, there was plenty of space in all areas, and the beds were super comfy! It is well located for the town and areas of interest. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need (and more!). Communication from/with the owners was exceptional, and we had a lovely welcome hamper on arrival. check in and out was simple and seamless. Fantastic place to stay as a base to explore Matlock, would definitely recommend and return.

Not the best place we've stayed.

Large beds. Location. Large kitchen. Powerful showers. Hot tub.

Tiny parking spot. Smelled of damp. Uneven bathroom floor. Dirty shower tray. Rusted sink shelf - bathroom worse but also in shower room. No body wash both bathrooms. Grill pan filthy. Dirty crockery/cutlery in cupboards. Fire not working. Oven pans unusable as surface peeling off. Fridge and freezer door seals filthy. No outside light. Garden hand rail covered in green slime.

Cosy Cottage in a great location in Matlock - handy for a family short get away. The house was spacious and the bedrooms were comfortable and warm.

Under the sofas/ living room needed a deep clean. Parking was a little difficult around the property

The accommodation was clean and comfortable. The hosts were quick to respond to any questions we had. Plenty to see and do in around Matlock despite some wet weather. The Hot tub was a lovely bonus to our stay.

Wonderful stay

Great cottage with plenty of space for everyone. The cottage also had everything you could possibly think of for a weekend away. Jodie and Stephen also supplied a lovely welcome basket. Hot tub was a massive hit. This place is definitely worth a visit and we cant wait to return. *5 accomodation.

Excellent location, spacious and very well equipped.

Unfortunately we couldn’t light the fire despite following the instructions carefully and making several attempts. It was a shame as we were on a winter break and it would have been very cosy to have the fire on in the evenings.

Had everything we needed. The help guide was very comprehensive.

Shelf above sink in en-suite made it difficult to clean teeth/shave. I asked for the key code a few days before and it was different to the code we were sent in the day of arrival by booking.com so that caused a bit of confusion but we got in using the code the owner sent us.

Very lovely place to stay 5*

Lovely property, very nicely decorated , good size house for a our family of 6 , the hot tub was lovely and hot for us and made a nice addition to the end of our days exploring. The owners have some lovely touches, leaving a basket of goodies for our family & even for any dogs that may be staying & a very useful detailed booklet on local bars/restaurants/attractions. The location is really good , you can walk into Matlock for bars and restaurants , Chatsworth house is a short drive and an absolute must see & Bakewell is a short drive too. Couldn’t recommend this place any more!
