Please note: sleeping bags are not included. Please note: NO WATER FUNCTION FOR COLD WEATHER RENTALS: September-October 1) Cold snaps & winterizing Early October is usually mild, but Colorado can flip fast. If the forecast shows a hard freeze (around/below 32°F) at your elevation, we’ll need to winterize the van before pickup to protect the plumbing. When winterized, the onboard water system (sink/shower/hot water) isn’t operable—we’ll provide water jugs and simple workarounds. Important: if the van is taken into freezing temps with the water system active and any part freezes/damages, repairs are the renter’s responsibility under our agreement. 2) Mountain passes, traction/chain rules & FWD The van is front-wheel drive. From Sept 1–May 31, I-70 over the high passes (Eisenhower/Johnson Tunnel & Vail Pass) runs under Colorado’s traction rules. That means you must have M+S/All-Weather or Winter tires with at least 3/16" tread (The van currently has new all weather tires this season), or carry/use chains or an approved traction device when required. During storms, the state can escalate to the Passenger Vehicle Chain Law, which requires chains/approved devices on all passenger vehicles—on a FWD van, that means the front tires. Roadside signs and COtrip org will show when these are active. - No Smoking or vaping - No Pets - No Off Roading. This is a low clearance two-wheel drive vehicle. Prohibited Travel Areas Mexico Logging and non-public roads Inaccessible areas United States: California: Death Valley (between May 1 and August 31) Nevada: Burning Man Festival Alaska Denali Highway Dalton Highway (Hwy 11) between Coldfoot and Prudhoe Bay, McCarthy Road between Chitina and McCarthy Canada: Yukon: North Canol Highway British Columbia: Aishihik Lake Road between Dease Lake and Telegraph Creek Restricted Travel Areas Authorization must be obtained from host to travel in the Yukon*, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and Alaska. These are not off-road vehicles. Unimproved roads, high clearance, closed roads, trails, 4×4 trails and tracks are not permitted at any time. Due to a very steep grade, driving up/down Pike’s Peak is not allowed, nor is any other road that requires downshifting for descent. Unpaved state and federal forest roads are permitted if they are currently maintained and well-graded, in good condition and passable by non-4wd/regular passenger vehicles. Exercise caution and good judgment when traveling on such roads. Driving slowly will help to avoid such damage. Watch the how-to video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2ug54RygM8
