Thistle Dew, a completely renovated historic cabin along the Salmon River in Welches has been the center of Mt Hood memories for more than a century. Settle in at this cozy cabin with river views from most every room, the riverfront back deck and the grassy backyard. During the summer months dip your toes in the cool river water, during the late summer and early fall watch the salmon spawning with a backdrop of fall colors and in the winter, stay cozy and warm inside with a frosting of snow along the river's edge. Relax in the private, outdoor hot tub with Salmon River views.
The cabin setting is ideal for a romantic getaway with the cozy wood-filled interior and the sounds of the river flowing by. The spacious en suite bedroom includes a king bed, twin bunk beds and attached bathroom. The modern kitchen includes a full-size refrigerator, range with cooktop and full-size oven, microwave, toaster and all of the pots, pans, dishes, serveware and utensils you need to prepare a fantastic meal. Grill out on the back deck on the gas BBQ with the sounds and views of the river as your backdrop.
Stay warm and cozy inside with the ambiance of a natural wood fire in the woodstove and the electric heat. During the summer months open the windows for the natural air conditioning of a cooling cross breeze. You will love the natural sunlight that streams in through the great room skylights all day long and and the nighttime view of the stars. So relaxing! Having the river and the fire pit was our favorite part of the house. This place is so peaceful I have never slept better. We will be back again.

We had a wonderful relaxing stay. The cabin is cozy and the outdoor spaces are nice with a calming sound of the rushing river.

Pros: comfortable beds, physically clean inside, kitchen was decently stocked, the river view is amazing! very relaxing outside & the hot tub seemed clean. plenty of towels & washer/dryer that was easy to use.Cons: felt like it was managed by a company vs a person. we asked to check in 1-2 hours early and they said it was not possible but when we drove by the place a couple of times, there was nobody there cleaning to doing anything. we asked how well the kitchen was stocked as we were grocery shopping before checking in & they said just salt/pepper, however, there was a whole spice rack with items. this makes us believe the person we were talking with had not seen the property & was just going off of description or expectations. they left us one roll of toilet paper for 3 guests for 3 days and said all they offer was a "starter roll" & we were expected to buy more if needed. all of this is manageable and easy to overcome. the 2 things that were not as easy to ignore was 1) an odd sour smell coming from the bathroom. maybe it is because they use a septic system? not sure but the room freshener spray we purchased when we bought extra TP did not do much to help it. you could smell it from the bunk bed room at times too. also, there was dog poop in the yard & on the little patio area where the chairs are by the river. dog owners should pick up their animal's poop but when they don't, the cleaners should check for that when they are resetting the property for others.
