About this villa rental

This minimal carbon footprint 3 bedroom villa with expansive infinity pool is situated 400 meters above sea level, offering enjoyably cooler temperatures over what you might find down by the beach (just a quick 15 minute drive away). Enjoy this ideal location where the mountains literally meet the vast Pacific Ocean, and the breezes are nearly infinite. The incredible lushness of this unique mountain coastline area is sometimes compared to Hawaii and other world famous natural meccas.

Villa Saltamontes possesses all the features and charm one might expect.

The villa is located off the beaten track and is backed by a great second growth forest which hosts all kinds of wonderful flora and fauna for your enjoyment, yet is just a few minutes' drive to the warm waters of Dominical beach. The ever popular Tinamastes organic farmer's market is also just a couple of kilometers away (held every Tuesday morning).

Built to be thermally cooling, Villa Saltamontes boasts fresh Pacific breezes throughout the entire home, making it an extremely comfortable environment but if you need air conditioning, this villa also offers that. To top it off, the solar panels located on the roof reduce the property's carbon footprint even further by providing all the hot water you might need.

One of the other great features is the wall to wall glass sliding doors that face the ocean, which retract completely into the walls on either side opening up the whole living area of the villa to the shimmering infinity pool and the gorgeous ocean and sunset views beyond.

The sleek modern architectural design offers functionality and privacy, and the solid concrete walls do a wonderful job of keeping the elements outdoors where they belong. To soften the overall feel of the place, the villa is accented by hardwoods and solid teak furniture throughout. Large glass windows are found in every room of the villa, offering guests views of the jungle forest and its inhabitants as well as gorgeous mountain and ocean views.

The kitchen with its array of premium appliances, has a full size breakfast bar, and is open to the dining and living areas making it wonderful for entertaining.

The three smartly spaced out bedrooms consist of one master bedroom with a king bed, en-suite bathroom which has two sinks, large closet with a work space, and private access to the pool area as well as ocean views. The second bedroom is made up of one queen bed, plenty of closet space, its own access to the pool area as well as ocean views. A shared bathroom is located between the second and third bedroom. You will find two twin beds and a large closet in the third bedroom, with windows that look into the jungle forest.

Luxury meets practical with extra amenities that include a premium water filtration system so you can enjoy the delicious drinking water without any worries, a covered car port right by the main entrance to the villa for extra convenience, a separate laundry room with top of the line washer and dryer for guests use, and a covered poolside patio with a stainless steel barbecue for those who like to cook outdoors.

Some extra perks Villa Saltamontes offers guests that make it even more unique include fruit trees and plants scattered throughout the property for anyone who wishes to forage for some ripe pineapple or bananas that might be present (many animals take advantage of this so its first come first serve and is season dependent).

Please notice that during January and February we have cicadas which make a chirping sound during daylight hours. Some years they are louder than others, and this is not under our control as the whole area has them here.

The town of Platanillo which is just a couple minutes' drive away offers a supermarket, a small bar as well as a local Tico restaurant. The closest beach town is Dominical, which has a variety of stores, restaurants and boutiques (even a health food store similar to Whole Foods believe it or not). Whether you enjoy surfing or relaxing on the warm sands this town is a great place to hang out. A variety of waterfalls with great swimming holes are also found in the close vicinity to the villa so you will never run out of things to do here!

You will need a vehicle to stay at this property to be able to get around. Rear wheel drive vehicles will not work due to a short yet steep gravel hill, so 4x4 car is required.

Having said that, we recommend a 4x4 vehicle to access the points of interest throughout this beautiful region. Public transportation is not available to and from this property.

A good 4x4 vehicle is needed to access this villa.

Completely PRIVATE pool for this villa.

We loved everything about this property: 1: the adventure getting to it (manger communication and instructions were excellent - definitely not the craziest road we were on in CR, and close to main highway over mountain pass to Perez, so very convenient) 2: Gateway to Central/South Coast - easy drives into Dominical, OSA beaches, Manuel Antonio (about an hour, super easy drive), and San Isidore (Perez) - the small city where you can find cheaper supplies and practice your Spanish! 3: Amenities - We harvested starfruits, lettuce, bananas and got eggs from the chickens. There were pineapples growing by the pool pathway: so much fun for us to have a mini-homestead and personal resort. Kitchen and bathrooms were nicer than my own at home. Gorgeous view. Loved the pool. Quiet and private. Exceeded my expectations overall. ** Communication with the management team was stellar. They answered any questions I had almost immediately. ** It was a touch hot a couple of nights without AC (March - very warm and humid), but a few evening rainstorms helped. There are multiple fans for use, which was appreciated. We kept the sliding doors open at night to catch the breeze. It’s not a gated community but felt very safe. **About 15 min drive into Dominical. Not a difficult drive, but if you are not experienced in driving in CR it could be tough at night to arrive. The hardest turn is the one off the main road onto the dirt track, imo. Just a bit hidden. We will be back!

If you're seeking an unforgettable Costa Rican retreat surrounded by breathtaking wildlife and unparalleled views, look no further than this villa. Nestled in the heart of Costa Rica, this haven offers an experience that exceeds all expectations. We enjoyed staying at this remarkable villa during our sixth visit to Costa Rica. We were captivated by the abundance of wildlife that greeted us from the moment we arrived. Every morning, the vibrant melodies of toucans and hummingbirds echoed through the lush surroundings, while the occasional sighting of falcons soaring overhead added an extra touch of magic to our days. And let's not forget the playful monkeys swinging through the trees, a delightful reminder of Costa Rica's rich biodiversity. Despite our initial concerns about the lack of air conditioning, we were pleasantly surprised by the cool evening breezes that swept through the villa. Not once did we miss the air conditioner, as the natural ventilation provided a refreshing respite from the daytime heat. It was a perfect example of how nature can seamlessly integrate comfort and sustainability. One of the highlights of our stay was undoubtedly the warm hospitality the owner and management team extended to us. From the moment we booked our stay until the day of our departure, they went above and beyond to ensure that every aspect of our visit was exceptional. Their genuine kindness and attentiveness made us feel right at home,

The house is pretty far from things, the lack of AC and the fact that it was very basic (you need to bring everything including salt and pepper, clothes washing detergent etc) put us off a bit. On the plus side, the house was clean and had most of the things you need for a stay. The kitchen was well equipped and the beds were fine. I would say, understand what your needs are and plan accordingly. The cost of the house is reasonable and they were quick to help when we had issues. I would caution you that this is a basic property. No frills.

Our family of 6 really enjoyed our stay at this house. The house was very nice and clean. We loved hanging out on the patio, watching the sunsets, listening to all the wildlife, and swimming in the pool. The kitchen was nice and had everything we needed. The beds were comfortable. Having fresh eggs from the chickens and bananas off the trees was great. There were only a few minor issues with the house and the property manager had them fixed immediately. Overall, a great house!
