Casa Rural La Escalerilla

As the name suggests, this is a very rural location! Make sure you are up for the dawn chorus, wow! You are surrounded by chripping and then the roosters start as the sun appears over the mountains. In the evening at sunset you have the chorus of frogs to listen to and stars at night, unless the mist has rolled in. It is so quite and peaceful. There at two terraces, one outside the house with a BBQ and then up the stairs is the hot tub and more space to be. Lots of flowers and lemon trees. Fresh lemon in hot water to start the day. The house has everything you need. You let yourself in with the key safe, and then find the keys to unlock each door. Keep the keys in the internal doors when you are home as they lock when shut so be careful not to lock yourself out of a room!the kitchen has lots of little cooking bits, oils, spice etc The lovely Jose who you contact to get the key code to enter is on hand if needed but will not come to the house so you are left alone. He is quick on what app if you need advice. We needed help to turn on the hot tub (the power switch is up the stairs to the left hiding behind the flowers) and turning the cooker hob on (press on, hold down the key symbol a long time until -- shows and then press the hob you want) There is a bus stop outside the house, I saw a bus go past towards Teror at 9am.

Some of these things will be pros not cons for some! So more things to consider than thing we didn't like. The house is remote, there are no shops or restaurants an easy walk away, you need to drive. We stocked up at a big supermarket before arrival so we have nice and cheaper food for our stay. The roads are very twisty and steep in places, so you must be comfortable driving mountain roads. It took longer than the sat nav said as the roads are tricky to drive for those not used to them or those not with a death wish. To park you have to pull up opposite the gate by the bin or go further down the road. Jose send photos of where to park, just the side of the road. There are quite a few steps up to the house as it's on a side of a hill. The elevation of the house meant the mist rolled in of an evening, so no late warm evenings like in the south of the island. Or this was the case in April. I'm the summer maybe it's the best place to escape the heat, up in the clouds. We didn't find walking from the house anywhere easy as you are on a twisty road and even though they are very quiet some people drive fast round corners. This is a house to retreat to and enjoy the peace.

The place is very comfortable, the jacuzzi works great, the heating is sufficient. There were a lot of nice things in the kitchen, everything you need and much more than that. The beds are comfortable and the living room has books, games and a nice stove to spend evenings. Jose is very nice and responded immediately when we had questions. Looking forward to being back.

A perfect place in the non-touristic heart of the island, surrounded by mountains — ideal for those seeking peace and quiet. We spent two weeks here and really loved it. The house has everything you might need and even more. Jose is always available, ready to help, and very welcoming. The jacuzzi deserves special mention — you can spend entire days there enjoying the view. We truly enjoyed our stay and couldn’t have dreamed of anything better!
