About this cottage rental
This newly renovated farmhouse is a definite “Mountain Jewel.” Located just across from Jefferson Landing Golf course, 5 minutes from the New River, 10 minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway, and close to the towns of Jefferson, West Jefferson, Boone and Wilkesboro, it is in the heart of the High Country.
As soon as you arrive at “Mountain Jewel” the first thing you will notice is the babbling stream that boasts mountain trout. A mountain view is also awaiting you from the front porch swing.
Step inside and you will find an updated home with modern touches that still pays tribute to the past. The living room features an electric log fireplace with a beautiful antique mantle and flat screen TV with internet channels for your viewing pleasure. A comfy loveseat and chair offer a place to curl up and watch a good movie or just relax. WiFi is provided throughout the home, and several board games for you to enjoy.
Upstairs above the living area, is Louis' loft, a tribute to the owner's grandfather, featuring desk for those that need to stay caught up on work while on vacation. Louis was an world renowned stamp collector and the owner graciously provides postcards with stamps for guests to drop a note to a loved one while on vacation. A cozy chair is also available to curl up and read a good book.
The spacious eat-in kitchen offers stainless steel appliances, a farmhouse sink that overlooks the stream, Keurig coffeemaker, and a dining table for four. A dishwasher makes for quick cleanup.
The main level also features two bedrooms. The first one features a queen bed and a flatscreen TV. There is a shared hall bath with tub/shower combo. In the hallway, there is a stackable washer and dryer for your convenience. The second bedroom features a king bed with its own private bath with shower.
Climb the stairs and you will find a spacious bedroom that offers a three twin beds with its own flat screen TV.
Venture outside and you will find a park model charcoal grill, a covered front and back porch for relaxing your cares away and the stream meandering throughout the property. Great for kids to splash and play in!

Thistle Meadow Winery is a short 20-minute drive In Laurel Springs, NC where you can try locally made wine. Visit downtown West Jefferson for numerous restaurants, breweries, shops, and antique stores. You can watch cheese being made at Ashe County Cheese the only cheese factory in North Carolina or catch a movie at one of two movie theaters. Enjoy a scrumptious meal at Craft Bistro or Hotel Tavern. Check out Boonedocks or New River Brewery for a local beer. Numerous art galleries dot downtown including RT Morgan, Lenore Depree and many more.
If you wish to ski, head to Appalachian Ski Mountain (50-minute drive), Beech Mountain (1 hour and 30 minutes) or Sugar Mountain (1 hour).

We had a fantastic time at Mountain Jewel! It was the perfect weekend getaway. The house is positively charming and relaxing. The cabin has just enough amenities to give its guests the modern comfort without losing its rustic charm. It was also very convenient to downtown, grocery stores, restaurants, and parks. Whether you are looking to relax on the porch and listen to the creek with a cup of coffee, or be a social butterfly downtown, you will enjoy your stay here. There is also a fire pit and camping chairs if you wish to sit outside and make s'mores!The rental company was also very efficient; they even called telling us that we could check in early!

Nice little farmhouse, family was comfortable and enjoyed their stay. Easy to get to off main road, all paved! Would recommend!

I really have no complaints other than the Air Conditioning not working throughout the stay. Lucky there was a Dollar General down the road and a few fans later we were able to sleep through the night.
